Owed one and regret the day I sold it.

MCDCFC3 is right. For me, I would have continued riding my 110 everywhere but I needed those extra CCs for the hills around the peaks; Rocester, Cubley, sometimes Ashbourne and Belper etc. for my commute to Nottingham.

Sometimes I catch myself thinking that a 250 would be nice. But I'm sure that if I had a 250, I'd probably want a 400. In reality, the 163cc gets me up hills and over to work at about 90KMH; it's cheap motoring.

I have had my share of big bikes - I just don't enjoy them in the same way.
I live in Ashbourne Viper so everywhere I go is hilly

This was a fun question to post. :)
Seems the largest Vespa bunch own the 300's - they reacted like ….well, a quote, "I'll give up my 300 when they pry my cold dead fingers off it!"

Posting this question, in America, is like asking folks if they really need more than a 1.8 L 4 cylinder.

Everyone lives in the Himalayas and is towing a double-wide!

Supposedly even the 1.0L 3 cylinder Geo Metro can do 90mph.

Personally I'd rather have a 4 cylinder minivan than a V6, simply for the ease of maintenance.

Anything bigger than a 1.8L is a big motor in Europe! :D

Most people get around with 1.0, 1.4, 1.6 motors.

A 2L car is a big, powerful car to most people.

My other half's car (1.0L) gets us wherever we want to go; it just takes a while to do it. I suppose that's the cost of 50MPG, though.

I owned a 2013 Agility 50 as my first scooter (2 wheel period actually) and I loved every second. However where I live there’s nothing, you drive in a car 15-20 minutes at 60mph to get to the next town to actually do anything.
And we have hills like crazy.
So when I upgraded to the Xciting 400i, I’m suddenly able to go everywhere, and also it’s far more comfortable.
And I love it around town, not as nimble as the Agility, but still plenty.

When I traded in Natasha (the 153cc Honda PCX) for Diana (the X400i) it was like going from a go-kart to Formula 1. The fact that I could cruise at 50mph at 1/3 overall throttle was just mind-boggling, when I used to have to be at 80% throttle to do that. My behind notices the difference, and the knowledge of the extra power available to potentially get me out of trouble is a bit of peace of mind I didn't know I needed.

I had the absolute most pleasant drive into and from work today that you could imagine. Slight cloud cover meant that it was noticeably cooler, and I went to work at a time when the roads weren't nearly as congested as they usually are. I think I was about 10-12 minutes earlier than normal today, and it was great riding in. I made the 12.6 mile trip to work in a record 17 minutes. It normally takes me 19-21 minutes to make the trip in. Coming back, I was right at 19 minutes, because I caught two traffic lights.

I do not have the words to explain how much I appreciate the 400cc I have now. But I also, nostalgically, loved the 153cc I  used to have. In the downtown area, she was unparalleled in quickness, agility, and maneuverability. Diana has some of the same quickness, not quite as much agility, and a little less maneuverability, but she has power and Ooomph that Natasha didn't have.
Two things to consider...
1) The early bird might get the worm, but the second mouse always gets the cheese.
2) Eagles may soar, but weasels never get sucked into jet engines.

Its completely flat where I live and that’s in the city.  My scooter is strictly for small errands and commute to work.    Now for pleasure and speed, I pull out my other beast.  Yes your absolutely right when it comes to power to weight ratio but it MOVES!   With all the mods I’ve done to it, it’ll lay rubber through second gear weighing in over 900lbs with me on it.   I LOVE MY little LIKE though.

I started out on a QT50 yamahopper that was 1981 i put 30,000 on that in two years.
Fast forward I  put 280,000 on a XL883. Now retired I went to a 150x kymco for the riding i do its big enough. 35 to 40 is my average speed. Those wanting too go faster are free to go around. I've got no were to go and the rest of my life to get there.

Bill, we are in the minority - with our 35/40mph 'happy speed' .
And I gotta say - that really troubles me too ;)

I don’t know about minority.  I think 150cc is the most fun class of scoot personally.  35/45 mph is my sweet spot.  But aren’t there more 50cc’s out there then anything?

Probably are more 50's out there than anything - but my impression is that 95% of those owners hate that they can't go over 35.
Me, I'm clam happy.

I guess the answer to that question totally depends on the intended use. Before my accident, I used my scooter as alternate transportation to my town car. As a result, I’d drive it to work several times/week 50 miles one way. So I NEEDED something that was highway capable. There was one unavoidable 4 lane stretch where the traffic moved at 65+. Also, ALL roads leading away from my house are narrow lane road with few passing zones and several blind curves and hills. They have a 45mph Speed limit (SUGGESTION). But even the older people regularly drive 55 (including me) who live out there and KNOW the road. Anything with a motor needs to be able to accelerate to 65 Quickly in emergencies and settle in at 55 for safety. I’m not one to try to make a point with a 4,000+ pound vehicle on my tail IMPATIENTLY waiting to pass. Lol.
