I hope they don't have cold weather starting problems,my local Kymco dealer has a brand new 2018 Xciting 400i marked down to $4999. I'm really considering purchasing it.

Have them roll it out to the unheated warehouse for the night ----Oh, wait - you're in Texas. Does it get cold there?

Stig,we have 2 seasons in Texas.hotter than Hades and cold. Not quite your Ohio cold but lots of upper 20's to mid 30 morning. Already about wore the seat out sitting on that 400i at the dealer :). The fun (or trouble) I could have with a touring scooter.

ALSO!

WE HIT 10K miles!
Been about 8 months!
Now, I did notice a difference when I moved from 1000 ft above sea level to a whole extra mile up. I fixed this by  (forgive me) removing the air filter.
I’m going to get a cold air filter soon, but I check the airbox daily, with not dust or moisture besides always a tiny smear of oil (like finger print size)
Since doing this I’ve notices I’m probably either back to normal, or 95% there.

Never had a start issue, except for one time I left it on without the engine on, and I waited an hour, then it started fine again.
She’s got a new rear tire (michelin city)
And she just had all the oils changed.

I haven’t noticed a drop in any power, she still zips away (though on some days she doesn’t like carrying two people, see 7000 ft).
I’m getting about 55-60mpg now as well.
I love this scooter very much, she’s never let me down and handled the worst of the worst (rode from work in a blizzard one day.)
I’m planning to do an engine check service, to check the insides. I fear I may have asked a bit too much more than a few times, though she never fought me at these points so who knows.

This has been the best 6800$ I’ve ever spent. (6650 plus the givi windscreen)
Every ride has been an adventure I’d never  want to change.
We actually celebrated last night (9940 miles, 88 mile round trip) it’s really hard to put this all into words honestly and sounds stupid I’m sure, but I consider this vehicle part of me and my fiance’s family.

I am planning to purchase a Kawasaki Concours soon. For LONG range trips (5000 mile round trip planned this summer!)
But this scooter will always be our roundtown, and to and fro work machine.

Also thanks to everyone on this forum for help (I FORGOT HOW TO MAKE THE OIL SERVICE LIGHT TURN OFF AGAIN), and support!

Here’s to 10,000 more!

I have no idea what the air box on a Xciting 400i looks like, but maybe you should also consider smearing the inside of the box with a thin layer of ordinary grease. That's exactly what I did to my "el cheapo" scooter's air box, as well as the air box on my previous bike.

Most dirt that enters the air box will get stuck in the grease and will never enter the engine. In my current scooter's case I couldn't even find any trace of dirt on my modified filter when I opened the box for inspection. All dirt got strapped in the grease inside the box, as well as the inlet pipe to the box. (The inlet pipe has also been smeared with a thin layer of grease, as deep as possible).

Ha! You beat us all to the punch! Mine needs a wash, too. Your emotional attachment is noted and shared. I have been "attached" to a good many machines over the years from motorcycles to ships and to scooters. I suspect there is something spiritual about such attachment that nearly makes any troubles with the macine really small. Conversely, obseving people who have zero connection seem to have bigger problems that seem impossible. Sorta, maybe like Noah building a huge boat and sailing for over a year. He never even built a raft prior to the flood...

Well, looking at the 10,000 report above - looks like that hard start in the cold was not typical.

So, what color is your new scooter going to be?

(I still recall standing in formation, before sunup, at Brooke Army Medical Center - with the sweat running down the center of my back - after a night of sweat running into my ears in the bunk. The smell wafting over from the mess hall in that humidity - was simply astounding! At least in 'Nam we wore tropical weight, no T-shirts - and could roll up the sleeves - and, in the late 60's,  it was only slightly more dangerous than San Antonio on a Friday night)

Is it true Kymco will not be selling the Xciting 400i in the US for 2019? Read that Yamaha will not be offering their Xmax 400 here either.

On Monday - give KymcoUSA a call, or email. https://www.kymcousa.com/contact/

Best to get this kind of info from them.
