Synthetic Oil for Xciting 500
« on: July 22, 2018, 09:46:42 PM »
I purchased my 2009 Xciting 500 this past April with fresh oil. Not sure what oil is in it now but would like to go to a full senthetic. Any of you folks using full senthetic and if so, what brand, weight, type etc.... Any noticeable performance change, engine sounds? I apologize for another oil thread but searched and didn't find any specific to the X500.

Looks like the owners manual suggests 5W50 but gives other viscosities based on your operating temperature range. A good option might be synthetic Shell Rotella T6 in 5W40 viscosity which can be had at a reasonable price through the local Walmart. I use it in my Aprilia Atlantic 500.

My personal preference (and aren't they all, really) is the Castrol Power1 5W-50 Synthetic 4T Motorcycle Oil. Of course, you probably can shift viscosities depending on weather, riding style, and other factors, and get anything close. I've got a couple of quarts on order for my upcoming service.

Spark plugs, I can't help you.  I've heard really good reviews, read some posts that were informative, and when I get to the point where I'll need a plug, I'll probably get an NGK Iridium IX plug. They're only about $7-$8 online.

YMMV, and HTH.
Two things to consider...
1) The early bird might get the worm, but the second mouse always gets the cheese.
2) Eagles may soar, but weasels never get sucked into jet engines.

I'd recommend those, use them in all my scoots. Looks like the same spark plug in the 500 as my MyRoad 700i or Burgman 650's a CR8E so NGK Iridium part number CR8EIX which can be had from Rock Auto for $5.62 plus shipping. https://www.rockauto.com/en/parts/ngk,4218,spark+plug,7212

Happy to be of service! (See what I did there?  :o )

That's what we're all here for.
