Top Tier Gas
« on: August 07, 2018, 02:54:53 PM »
While it is true, as some have argued here, that all fuels must meet federal standards for detergent additives …...

"AAA is urging drivers to switch to a type of gas that costs an extra* 3 cents per gallon on average — Top Tier detergent gasoline.
This announcement follows the nonprofit having various brands of Top Tier and non-Top Tier gas tested by an independent engine testing lab.
After 4,000 miles of simulated driving, the non-Top Tier brands caused 19 times more engine deposits than Top Tier brands, which contain more detergent additives than is required by the federal government’s standards.
According to AAA, those carbon deposits can:
Reduce fuel economy
Increase emissions
Negatively impact vehicle performance, especially for newer vehicles"

*In my area Top Tier gas is the same price as non Top Tier gas stations. So, once again, I urge folks to look for the Top Tier stations in their areas - it costs no more to use the good stuff!

Snoop brings up a good question. How does one find out which stations are "top tier" and which aren't?

Two things to consider...
1) The early bird might get the worm, but the second mouse always gets the cheese.
2) Eagles may soar, but weasels never get sucked into jet engines.

Link to the list above. If they ain't on it - you ain't getting it.
Or you can ask the guy/gal at the counter inside. Good luck with that!

I emailed the company of our local and most popular gas station. (before I found the list)

They were almost angry that I asked - "No, and we don't plan to."

Circle K and Costco. I'm good.

In all truth, I had no idea there was even such a thing to begin with...

Thank you for the valuable info!

My local "Skeeter's Guns, Live Bait, Beer, Lube and Aviation Fuel" drive thru ain’t on there.
S'where I get my push mower gas. Like a friggin hover craft with that stuff. But don't let the spark plug ever point at a window, children or small animals. 🙈

Thanks. You’ve provided valuable information as usual. The list is ALMOST as expected with a few exceptions. I’m not surprised that the Raceway station I sometimes frequent is not there. But I’m pleasantly surprised that Marathon is on there as well as Circle K branded gas.
I’m somewhat surprised that Pilot/Flying J is not on the list given their vast popularity across the country. As you stated, the price difference is often minimal if any. Where I live, price seems to be determined more by location than by brand.
