ICON has a new hot weather jacket
« on: August 14, 2018, 05:49:47 PM »
Just released. Lots of mesh for airflow.
My son's first mesh jacket. He likes it a lot.
Comes with the good orange D30 CE armor in all 3 areas, and a good bit of reflective trim.

Wow... I like that one.

This is the first one I've seen that wasn't all black, or at least 50% black.

Two things to consider...
1) The early bird might get the worm, but the second mouse always gets the cheese.
2) Eagles may soar, but weasels never get sucked into jet engines.

FirstGear makes an all mesh jacket in colors.....incl. all hi viz yellow. It also has very effective reflective strips for night riding, a rain liner, and can be found for $100 at riding season end.
It was my first jacket exactly because it has more hi viz than any other.

Good quality - if not quite on par with an ICON.

The jacket I have is identical to the one I have listed for sale, except that the one I have is an XL, not the behemoth they made first.

I really like the fact that it's ALL high-viz, except for that little bit of royal trim at the collar and on the sleeves.

I can ride comfortably in 95°F+ weather, but no jacket will keep you cool when you're sitting at a stop light on the road next to a truck. That's just miserable.

I have a perforated leather jacket for use at more moderate temps..and a high vis mesh for when it is really hot. The mesh is so nice with the light weight and tons of airflow. I do realize there is a trade off in protection with the mesh (vs leather)  but it's worth it when it's really hot and muggy! Joe rocket Phoenix 5.0 (or something like that) is my mesh jacket...first one I bought...the armor placement in shoulders and elbows is a little funky...but it works...and you always need to replace the back 'pad' with real CE rated one!

I like the looks of that ICON jacket....

I have two Racing Fly air jackets which I actually had to buy from the US as I could not get them here in Australia and am very happy with them.  Very light with protection.  I have the hi viz yellow and the black cafe version.

One of the things we liked about the ICON jacket is that it comes fitted with the 5-pieces of KLIM D30 CE armor - which run about $100 to $125 for the set. I do recommend the T5 grade of this armor.....

I've added KLIM pads to my riding pants as well. The stuff is very comfortable, soft and 'bendy' ----until it is called into action!
