2011 people 50 2T wont start after carb cleaning
« on: September 05, 2018, 01:25:53 AM »
well i got the new to me 2011 peoples 50 2 t home yesterday, it has only 246 original miles on it.  It wont start, i changed out the battery, cleaned the carb. still nothing, i chased fuel to the filter clean with plenty of flow.  thats where it stops though, i am  not getting fuel to the carb, i checked the resistance for the auto start valve on the carb and get 4.2 ohms and the manual i am following says as long as its not 5 it should be good to go.  any other reason for no fuel to the carb i should be looking for?  not really sure y I cant get fuel past the fuel filter housing, filter looks really clean, i can spray carb cleaner through the filter lid with the passages but when i put it together and blow throug i get nothing..  i did remove fuel line at carb after cleaning while troubleshooting and i can blow air from where fuel line connects to carb all the way back to the tank but i cant get fuel to flow to the tank????  hmmmm  any help would be great!! thanks!!!!

Does it have an auto fuel cock (vacuum activated diaphragm type fuel delivery device) between the fuel tank and the carb?

The auto fuel cock should have a vacuum line running to the carb (or manifold).  Disconnect this from the carb.  Disconnect the fuel line at the carb.  Apply vacuum to the vacuum line, holding the vacuum to see if fuel begins flowing from the fuel line.  If fuel flows freely, the device is good.  If fuel does not flow or just dribbles, the auto fuel cock is the problem.

That was the problem!!!  thanks for the help, now the next question.  Is there a problem not reinstalling the auto fuel cock?  I bypassed with a plain lawn mower filter and now i'm thinking about just buying a smaller fuel filter and installing that in line and capping the vacuum port that the hose goes into.  any problems with this approach?  the reason i ask is that little auto fuel cock is 50 bucks.  i'll buy it if i need to.  just asking.....  thanks

You can do it that way, but the only thing stopping the flow of fuel to the carb will be the float valve in the carb.  And if the float valve leaks even a little bit, fuel will run out the carb overflow.  The way I'd do it is to install a manual shut-off valve in the fuel line somewhere convenient to turn off and on.  That will get you running again.  Then, look for a cheap generic (Chinese) auto fuel cock.  When you find and install it, you might want to keep the manual shut-off installed just as a precaution.  The cheap fuel cocks are out there.  I just haven't looked for one lately.

thanks for the link but i just finally found the factory replacement close by for 45 bucks so i'm gonna just replace it to keep everything stock.  the scooter is a 2011 but its like brand new with only 246 miles on it so i figured the price was cheap to keep this new scooter stock.  it for some reason this fails again, i will go with a cheap replacement.  i'm also figuring that the reason it failed was because the scooter sat for months and eventually years and just dry rotted the diaphragm.

Got her put back together tonight, used a new factory fuel auto cock 16950-KEC8-9000 and new clear blue fuel lines.  I am extremely happy that I went back together with the stock fuel cock cause its a fuel filter canister also and the clear blue lines show fuel dumping in to the carb as well as the manifold where the vacuum line goes in.  I probably woulda had problems with power loss at full throttle because the way i had it rigged to run when trouble shooting there was no vacuum line to supply additional fuel when needed.  got her up to 30mph stock tonight, now its time to start looking for more speed...  got any suggestions?  new rollers first or carb, intake and exhaust first?  thoughts?  recommendations on parts for more speed?   thanks for all the help.

I'm glad you have it running.  I cannot help you regarding upgrades for increasing the speed.  I suggest starting a new thread for that info.

Well the 50 dollar factory plastic auto fuel pet cock quit working again today!!!!!  it's less than a month on the scooter and it's right back to where i was before.  I ordered a manual fuel shut off today from amazon with new fuel lines and small moped fuel filters.  will install later this week when it gets here.  i am not gonna spend another 50 bucks on another factory plastic part that will just fail again i'm sure.

is there any problem just capping the port on the manifold that the vacuum line from the auto petcock ran to? with the manual fuel shut off, I wont need to pull a vacuum for fuel flow.  thanks

Are you SURE the new item has failed?  If the scooter sat for an extended period, I understand how there could be crud in the fuel tank making its way to the fuel cock diaphragm, causing it to malfunction.  One other inexpensive fix would be to purchase a cheap knock-off fuel cock and place a fuel filter in line between  the fuel tank and the new fuel cock.  To answer your question, yes, just cap off the manifold vacuum fitting.  And please let us know how this turns out.

thanks, will do regards to letting you know how it turns out.......  manual fuel shut off will be here wednesday, i'll get it installed then report back.  i don't want to wast time installing the cheap auto pet cocks if the manual will fix it for good.  gonna install fuel filter also and go from there.  i do know the factory part failed again, as soon as I hook the fuel line up to the carb without the auto fuel cock, it fires right up and runs great!!  the fuel tank is clean, i flushed it out last time when i drained out the old fuel.

Sounds like a good solution to me.
