Hmmm....

OK, who did Physics at school?... come on, own up....... anyone?
I'm a lil' confused....

If you were to throw, lets say a tennis ball at a street sign as you were approaching it at 60 km/hr...... would the tennis ball be doing the same speed as the vehicle it came out of????

And if the "sign" was moving towards the car at 60km/hr and made contact with the tennis ball as it left the vehicle, would the combined speeds be the same (120km/hr) as throwing a tennis ball (out of a vehicle) at a (stationary) brick wall while the vehicle is doing 120 km/hr?

I'm pretty sure it would.

Any ideas.... anyone?

Josh

I had a lot of physics during my education, up to a point of calculating fuel requirements for submerged nuclear submarine at a certain speed. :)
You are oversimplifying.

Except speeds of two objects, vectors of movement (collison angles) are also very important, so is the mass of both colliding objects.

In educational physics, collisions are usually researched also in oversimplified way: two objects are material points, which means they have no mass (no such thing in real world...) and after collision, they move on as a single joined body (also does not happen) and do not continue movement as two separate bodies in different directions.

You cannot calculate "speed" that hit you. You can only calculate energy dissipated by the Coke can hitting you, considering its speed, vector towards your head, weight of the can and speed of (you+scoot), you+vehicle speed vector etc. That would be the energy that is influencing you after the collision.

Anyway, you were not hit by 120 km/h projectile Coke can, that does not take anything away from uniqueness of your experience. :) :) :)

Note in bright sunlight, it's actually a deep blue metal-flake finish though, right?  At least the "black" Like 200i our shop just got recently is this deep, metallic blue, I should say. Maybe it's different in other markets.
.

Yeah, my girl was the first to notice that it was actually black with a blue metallic flake through it - like a week or two after I bought it!

Very subtle it is.

Ahhhh.. Now I get it!

Thanks for clearing that up. Physics was never my strong point.
I'm just glad that the contents of the cup as it popped the lid off after hitting the visor went up & over my head, and not over my front  ;D

Coke is easy to clean off helmets and paintwork, but not so easy to get out of jackets!

You're right though man, it was an experience!  :)

I had a lot of physics during my education

..axy, riddle me this...

..let's say you're cruising down the road, in a car, at 120kmh...enjoying a hot summer's evening drive with the windows up and the A/C on, got a little of your favorite music playing thru the in-dash 8-track tape player...it's a peaceful, lightly travelled country road and you're just kicked back, chillin, taking in the scenery....

..but there's this...fly...zipping all around the cabin, buzzing your ear, landing on your hand, then your nose and you flail at it again and again, desperately trying to shoo it away...but you can't hit it..and you're swerving all over the road now and DANG!!! WATCH OUT FOR THAT HEDGEHOG!!..so, this is really beginning to really destroy the moment for you so you roll down the window and attempt to scoop it out into the hot summer air...scooping.. more flailing and finally the little bugger just zing across your field of vision, out the window and into the great outdoors...

..now, my ? is..

..what happens to mister fly when he leaves the confines of the cabin and flies into the open air??

..does he simply fly on his merry little way??

..or is he buffetted by 120km winds, thus ripping his god-forsaken wings from his ever-bothersome thorax?...

..i've always wondered....

Is this a Star Trek fly, teleported from outside to the cabin, considering that I was driving with A/C on and closed windows?

I like that fact that plain cop had to tase him in order for SWAT to arrest him! :)
SWATs seemed to more more like a folklore or audience in this case.
