I want to turn off my headlight at times.
« on: September 24, 2018, 06:09:27 PM »
At various times, while servicing or even just setting the clock on my Yager 200i, I don't want to crank the engine but I want to turn the ignition to the on position.

But the headlight comes on and with all of my past battery problems, I want to be able to turn the headlight off.

Any ideas?  I electrically inclined but I just don't know the best way to go about doing it or how to even get at the Yager's wiring.

Thanks

Dave
I did it and I'm glad.

YES!! Been thinking the same thing with my DT300i and since my ride used to be a Yager, it should apply. There are two relays, one high beam, one low beam. Find the one for low beam since that is the one that comes on with the ignition. Identify the two pins that are attached to the coil in the relay, pull one of them (preferably the one that goes to ground) and wire a SPST switch between the pulled wire and the blade on the relay. You can mount the switch anywhere you want depending on switch size. I am going to try mounting mine in the right grip housing. You may have to rethink this bright idea if there is a plug shell into the relay.

:o  all I do when I play with the lights or set clock is plug in the battery charger, and then take my time to fix or change or  test lights to check what works best,

De dee always has a practical way of doing things!

Yes de dee is the practical one  ;).  On my other scooter (Aprilia SR50), the headlight is on AC and powered directly from the stator so it doesn't come on until the motor is running.  Also very practical.
