Chinese copy of Shindengen FH020AA rectifier?
« on: September 26, 2018, 06:14:16 PM »
The old type of rectifier/regulators get hot and are prone to failure.

So I bought a cheap chinese copy of the Shindengen FH020AA:

Any thoughts on what I should expect for the quality?

All the reviews I've found of people actually using them seem to be positive. And the bad reviews seem to be exclusively people pointing out that it's not OEM.

If it is truly Shindengen made in Japan it should be great if it can be compatible. Even with the "brown wire system on" requirement it should be an improvement. I would be suspect if chinese. However, personal experience counts. Good reports transcend opinion. You can get anything of any quality from China. The tough part is getting good, reliable feedback before you buy.

I suppose since the point is to get something more reliable, it makes more sense to go for the known reliable manufacturer.

In my case, I think I'll just stash the old rectifier somewhere in the bike in case of emergency and install a voltmeter.

I've heard some people suggest that it's probably not a MOSFET rectifier, which would mean they're outright lying about it. But that should be pretty easier to figure out -- it should run much cooler. My current one was 145 degrees F after an hour.

I think it should work with any three phase stator, which I believe is most bikes.

You right! If it has three wires of the same color and all other wires of colors different then it should work on any 3-phase alternator. You smart guy! You a keeper!
