Rip-off parts prices

Stunned, I am! You think Kymco oil filter prices are bad? You think Kymco's price on a Like fuel pump is bad? KTM wants $891 for the assembly in the 1190 adventure bike! It can be bought only as the assembly. Ya need a pre-filter? Ya gotta get the assembly! And there seems to be a reliability problem with this assembly! The riders of these time bombs over at ADVRIDER.COM are trying to do what Stig did and use a pump you can buy from another vendor at prices that don't increase the national debt.

Ya know, that ebay fuel pump mit der filter for a Yamaha, has been in there for 4 years. If it ever fails, I'll put the orig. LIKE200i part back in (my driveability issue turned out to be the TPS)
Paid @$35-$40 for it, I think. (also have spare injector and coil due to the same episode --- if Xbolt hadn't lent me a diagnostic tool --- I might still be throwing parts at the kitchen wall ;-)

35-40 bucks for a Yamaha part, right? That's the "hot rod" philosophy at work and it is alive and well at ADVrider.com! My dear, old Dad was spittin' mad in '68 when he needed breaker points for his Harley. Local shop was Draeger's in Seattle. Parts guy came back with a little box and said something outrageous like, "That will be 10 bucks!" Dad, well, you know, nearly fainted and the parts guy said, "Ya need the part, doncha?" Dad owned a lot of bikes since that but not one Harley ever again.

Yep - cheaper to buy a new printer. We're on our third.

Problem with that is the starter ink in a new printer lasts about ten minutes.

Ink jet printers are particularly horrible, expensive and problematic.

I bought a laser printer at a thrift store for $6. It needed new toner once in the 5 years I've owned it, $16.

Some brands are just plain expensive to buy and maintain.  If you think $891 for a fuel pump assembly is bad.  The oil change kit for one of those bikes is around 65 bucks and I don't think it includes the oil.  The time required to change the oil is also ridiculous.  One guy told me it took him 7 hours the first time but he figured with practice he could get it down to about 3 and a half.

On the other hand, I can't think of any parts for my Kymco that I considered expensive.  If you want to ride a BMW, Harley, Ducati, KTM or other exotic bike expect to spend some big $$$.  That's one reason I bought a Kymco.

7 hours? 3.5 hours? That is outrageous! Yow! Good plug for Kymco! Stig had some wild experiences with no dipstick sight glass oil changes.....
