Summer
« on: October 16, 2018, 03:04:35 AM »
seems to have come to abrupt end here in Arkansas.

It's been consistently in the 80's at day and 60's at night up until a few days ago. In the foreseeable future it's going to be 20 degrees colder than that.

I have a 2.5 hour drive ahead of me tomorrow in the mid 40's and I'm a bit nervous.

Layer up!
Let NO wind into your body.....neck, wrists, chest, ankles, etc., etc
Keep the wind out and you can hang on to your body heat.
Balaclava, scarf, and heated gloves - with wind-proof overjacket and overpants work for me.
Nothing short of heated gloves let me ride into the teens and twenties.

Good luck.

Don't forget the rain suit to do what Stig says! Works marvelous when I have misjudged how cold!

I survived, with only a bit of hypothermia.

I've got a balaclava, jacket, and decent non-heated gloves.

The biggest problem I have is that my pants are neither insulating nor windproof.

Some sort of rubberized overpants....or froggtogg rain overpants.
Something to keep wind out. Makes a big difference. Sitting here in 38°F after my coffee ride...feeling OK with my froggtoggs over my armored jeans.
Years ago,  in Mass. winters wore armynavy store rubberized overpants on my Honda. Worked a treat.

Heated grips make the world of difference man! A decent set make you feel a lot better about the rest of you being stone cold.

Hey Hypo,

Perhaps you didn't get the PM? I have a pair of insulated winter over-alls that resemble waders that I don't use or need. If you PM me your address I'll send them to you, gratis.

I didn't get your PM, but I did send one a few days ago when I finally noticed your post. Let me know if you didn't get it -- could be that the messaging system is not working.

I appreciate it! Nothing that a bit of JB Weld won't fix I'm sure.

Well the pants made a profound difference. After a 90 minute drive, 40 and overcast, I was still quite comfortable.

Thanks again, stuo!
