my new 2019 XTown 300 i abs
« on: November 22, 2018, 03:52:30 AM »
After considerable work, bending over, crawling on floor ( I have lift but elected not to use it--exercise for me) I am sure lift will be used for first oil change/inspection.  Work is done---I add no electronic crap/lights, etc.

After over  75 new bikes or scooters I know what I need for daily/trip use---Xtown is my 10th rubber band drive scooter.

1. Installed front mud flap I had left over from Burgman 400

2. put velcro on "hump"  so Givi scooter bag can be used as "tank" bag.   Bag already had velcro on it from previous use on SilverWing 600

3.  Bolted on side stand enlarger pad---had from my CB300F

4.  Mounted garage door opener on dash where I can get to it easy

5.  Givi has no luggage carrier for bike in stock for me to use my E-46 Monokey box.   So plan B, use my $40 Bestem Box with its rack, box is probably better size for this scooter.  My need for box---dog rides in it----long trips too, this year ME to CA and James Bay Road in Quebec.   Using Bestem rack required making template for the 4 already Kymco installed bolt holes 6mm....but when mounting the plate, they are blind holes...required some dittle time.  Box now on, looks ok, box has included back rest for passenger.

6.  Rear wheel---turned valve stem so it can be approached from left side.   At tire change time I will replace these 90 degree stems to short rubber stems from Honda Parts.

From dealer I have ordered shop manual and spare drive belt, nice to have on long trips...in case.

7.  Made up tool kit so I can at least remove both wheels on trip---also have tubeless tire plugs, etc and hand pump.

Now I have ridden this scooter not much yet---but standard windshield appears better than those on Honda/Suzuki/Yamaha/Daelim scooters----2,000 miles or so to really have good opinion of windshield----but looking at 4 bolt mounting system of the Xtown, it probably cannot stand the strain of larger shield---Had National Cycle shield on Honda NT700V break at the mounting points, 4 point mounting just like Xtown, so some experience here.

I never make changes to drive line...period.  Want different performance=get a different bike in my book.  OEM parts work fine for me.

Sometime soon will install "Ride On" in both tires...been using it for years as balancing aide and maybe it seals small leaks.

stay tuned
