Cannot open Seat Compartment With key
« on: December 01, 2018, 04:26:26 PM »
I have a Kymco 250 Excite and The Battery is dead and I cannot open the seat compartment to access the battery to charge or replace it. The key which did open the compartment with the ignition will not release the seat. Any Ideas about how to get it open? My email is ret3@mac.com

on the seat and try to open it. The extra weight on the seat might make the difference.
After you get the seat open, adjust the latch so it will open easier.

Boo, is the seat latch electrically operated by the key?
Otherwise ...doesn't Kymco offer a back-up seat latch lever accessed somewhere by the key? Surely?

And, I'm feeling a little peculiar.

Can't give you definitive answer - but - often with scoots that have the seat open w/ key at the ignition switch you can access the cable at the switch.  Depends on whether you can remove enough of the front panels to gain access to the switch assy.

If you can get at it,  you may be able to be able to figure out how to pull the inner cable to release the seat latch.

If something is caught in the latch, perhaps using the key to unlock and pulling up hard on the seat will pop it open.

Good luck!

This!

My seat occasionally fails to open when I've got enough crap underneath to cause upward pressure on the seat itself. All I do is hold the key in the unlock position and apply downward pressure on the seat with my other hand.

On some scoots, the Piaggio MP3 for example, you can open the trunk and there is switch you can press to open the under seat compartment.

If nothing else works, you will have to get at the other end of the cable at the ignition switch and pull on it from that end.
