new clutch bell question...
« on: August 30, 2010, 04:40:01 PM »
Has anybody used a new clutch bell, any brand?

I understand that a new clutch will increase performance but what about the face?

Im usually on a bicycle, so for me, this thing is hauling ass!

For the most part you will not see big gains by changing the bell,If you plan to run a big bore kit you will want to change clutch and bell to a larger vented type to handle the extra torque and heat running in higher
revs.
If not your better off tuneing the stock clutch and maybe change out the drive ramp.  http://www.sip-scootershop.com/main/base/Details.aspx?ProductNumber=M618317&ProductName=Speed drive MALOSSI BSV GPZX&_language=EN&Producer=KYMCO#KYMCO

I'm not even sure what that is!

either way, I realize you get the bell in addition to a clutch and other parts.

there isn't a single part that is the magic bullet for speed.

takes many parts, time, consideration, tuning and patience.

;D Thats the way to look at it. The link is to the movable ramp in the clutch (the thing your clutch spring rides against) It has a slightly different tapper to help improve the the gear ratio on the clutch side, than you have to match the drive side to it(the variater) for best results. Usually a better throttle responce and performance throughout the tranny if all else is dialed in(carb, pipe, weights and clutch spring) Hope that helps

I bet! Would you need dramatically heavier weights with that?

Or is it more of a sleight change, a gram or two.

It matters what your final cvt and clutch set up is, I had a hell of a time with mine. I could run as large as 12g to as small as 9g and settled on 9.5G but still a bit light i think. I had done too many changes at once and was running in circles to get things to work right.
Then ultimately found i was dealing with yet another problem (crank bearing going out ::)
Try to dial in one thing at a time. Start with pipe air and jetting, get this to optimum than play with your cvt. If you don't have this part dialed in first the cvt will amplify any weak spots on the motors performance.

But that's my point. Will have up jetted, derestricted and added an air filter by the time i get the variator.  When I order my pipe should I order bigger or smaller weights?

..it's still hard to say, as cvt upgrade parts don't weigh the same as oem...

..a cylinder kit would most likely require heavier weights..

..filter and pipe, along with cvt??...it's all trial and error and educated guessing...
