Did I Damage My Engine?
« on: December 14, 2018, 09:44:43 PM »
A few weeks ago I reported that my Bet&Win 250 made a slight metallic ticking sound, but it disappeared and I rode it for about an hour. Seemed ok though. Now I realise that the oil was low for some reason even though I changed it a couple months back and it was full at the time. I can't understand why it dropped so quickly in maybe ten uses. Now I can't get the scooter started at all, the starter just grinds but the engine won't turn over. Have I damaged the engine. The dipstick showed very little oil when I checked it.

:'( :'( :'(with very low oil , and running it for a few hours ,  does not look good !!!  could be any thing from the piston, to the valves, if it wont start taking engine apart would be the way to go,.  or  part it out and get a new ride,

"Won't turn over"....please clarify. Do you simply mean the engine won't start?
Or, you get no indication or sound that the engine is turning?
It seems that 'some' oil showing on the dipstick might not mean a destroyed engine.
If the engine is showing signs of a dead or dieing battery - I'd look there first for the reason of a no start.

And, I'm feeling a little peculiar.

Stig is right - need to clarify if 'won't turn over' means  'is it seized or not?'.  Could try putting a bit of oil in the cylinder through the spark plug hole and try turning it over with a wrench on the crankshaft (on the shaft the variator is attached to).

To be honest this isn't sounding great. Check your oil regularly, boys and girls.
