Bored? - DIY of a Piaggio
« on: February 28, 2019, 10:27:56 PM »
Working today on installing an AdMore rear light bar on my Liberty....
But first I had to see if I could get to the taillight wires without screwing anything up!

(Lesson learned, several times, on this Liberty : pretty much every screw is so tight that stripping the head or tool is quite possible. If working sideways on the scoot (the pass. footpeg screws for example) have someone hold from the other side as you apply much force to the screw gun! Medium force will strip the screw.)

FIRST: is figuring out how to get to the rear bulb wiring to add the AdMore light bar.

It is not possible to add the light bar after the top case is mounted - because one needs access to the wires in the bodywork - below the rack, mounting and case.

Locating the wires by removing the taillight assembly using the download serv. man. mix of English and Italian thinking is ….interesting.

Step 1:
Remove the rear rack - DO use the proper bit in a heavy screw gun and apply weight/force to the screw. The 3 white arrows point to 3 VERY tight screws!
Remove the pink screws and the silver and black screw found above & below that top white arrow. (these 4 free the bodywork)

Using your fingernail at the arrow - >pry  the chrome piece away at the rear.
You will then find a screw on each side to remove easily.

With the 7 top screws and the 2 side screws removed - gently pull/wiggle the taillight assembly back and out of the bodywork.

Here are the 3 wires I'll splice the AdMore bar into: Black/ground, White/Black stop light, Yellow/Black running light.

I'll think about splicing into the turn signals - but for now I'm not a fan of the bar's turn signal.

Now that I've proven to myself that I can get to the wires - I've ordered the AdMore light bar.
The Piaggio case and mounting are in hand - but first the light bar gets wired up.

to be cont'd..

Clutch driver style?

Yes, screw guns with a clutch are the only kind I use....especially important when intalling a screw so as not to overtighten.
These Piaggio torx screws required the "drill" setting to break lose!
They'll each go back in at a much lower torque!
The tool kit comes with a small torx screwdriver which is worse than useless on the machine screws -- it will only strip the screw head.
The valves are easy - but hope the tail bulbs last a long, long time!
