Better separate ignition key from topcase key!
« on: March 06, 2019, 02:13:18 AM »
Piaggio owners probably already knew this.*
Just noticed that I'd stand a good chance of locking the key to my Liberty150i in the OEM Piaggio top case - unless I keep the ignition key separate from the case key!

Dismount at my destination - toss gloves and scarf in my top case - set keys in there - bump the Piaggio lid closed. Have a nice cup of Joe.
…...and I'm walking 27 miles home.

So, just bought a nice matching redheaded key to leave in the top case lock.
(I'm never out of sight of my scooter - and usually sitting within 5 yards of it having coffee.... taking photos)(only things of value kept in there is my 6-Pack of emergency Moon-Pies)

This was never an issue with the lighted Bestem 929 top case. Key must be in hand to lock the case. (a great case - LED running and brake lighting standard - with all mounting hardware. @ $120!! Darn shame they are no longer avail.)

As walking sucks----best solution is carry two keys for everything on bike----drop one, etc, you still have way to get on your way.

I've noticed that on the Vespa/Piaggio Forum that a lot of posts involve riders telling their fellow owners "don't lose your red key," you will be out of luck. Probably good advice to have a spare. ;)

Yeah, that's their programmed key....with the code gizmo in it.
You lose that it's like $600 for new ignition.
Still does not prevent 10 min thefts in London with new $8000 Vespas.
Mine is brown - does the same. I've made spares of that one.
(If I loved in London I wouldn't even try to own a Vespa)

Bought red to match my case. For $4 it's not coded to anything.
