Riding...going places
« on: March 11, 2019, 07:20:00 PM »
Thurs or Friday this week departing---Goal: CA and return to Chattanooga, riding in as many states as possible in-route.  2019 XTown 300i ABS now has 1,000 miles,, never been washed yet, Puig Touring screen mounted, Givi E-46 box (for dog) hole cut in top, fresh oil in bike, will change in motel parking lot at about the half way point  (machine with approx. 1 qt capacity, unfiltered, require frequent changes--oil WalMart 10-40 has worked for me the last 5-600,000 miles.)

Tires at 29 psi front and 33 psi rear, carry bicycle pump and plug kit.

Tools: enough to remove both wheels, etc.  Mirrors on this bike require really thin wall 10mm socket to tighten if they work loose!  Have that.

I use paper maps---carry cell phone---have towing insurance---engine blow up,  think about it and maybe rent small van and return to selling dealer----delays can be really expensive....so returning home in rental might be cheapest way.----I

What does it cost?  I figure about $100 a day, cheap food/gas/motel 6  I do carry lite camping stuff for emergency---hate to use it.

And no plan!!,,   just the goal to get to CA and return, been doing this since 1955, stop when tired/hungary.   Foam ear plugs  get real uncomfortable for me at about the 400 mile point.  Take naps when necessary.

What I don't see  is more people (old farts doing this) these things are made to ride--- it is fun!  Looking forward to 80th birthday in May.

I think Kymco will be no trouble.

As I do not like getting cold or wet, will wear Aerostich Darien Jacket (yellow) and Darien Pants--have rubber overboots and Aero overmitts for rain.  Usually ride regardless of weather.   Maybe carry leather jacket for real nice days.   Boots will probably be Wolverine 8-10 inch lace ups, as they are comfortable to walk in.

This getting long----but based on over 1.5 million 2 wheel miles, I stop every 50 miles or one hour on most days---keeps body going.  Gas I never stretch it----unknown territory every 100 miles, known territory no more than 150 miles---walking sucks.

Hey John! If you plan on being near Seal Beach, CA, you can bunk in my place by the beach for a day or two. I've got an extra bed/bath room with an old claw-foot tub you can soak in.

PM me to exchange phone numbers if interested.
