Rear tire wobble

This has been going on for some time now.

Last week I changed the bearing in the swingarm thinking it was the problem, but it wasn't.
When the wheel is on the drive shaft and pushed all the way it wobbles, it's not firmly on the splines of the shaft.

When I put everything back, and torque the nut to the value in the manual the wobble is still there as you can see in the video

I think (hope) the problem is the rear wheel, but the only way to know that is to buy a used wheel.
Any thoughts?

Today I took the rear wheel to the tire shop where I get all my tires changed.
The guy put it on a manual balancer and it's true, no wobble.
I suspect the splinter cylinder (don't know the English word for it) on the tire is not level, and there are scratch marks on it.
There are also some marks on the shaft bearing. Don't know what to think of it.
Anybody had this issue before?

If I understand your comments correctly, you meant you would feel some play on the wheel when you put both hands on the wheel - i.e right hand at “3 oClock” position, and left hand “at 9 oClock” position, and you push and pull the wheel in opposite directions by hand ?

Since your posts I changed my Agility’s rear tyre I noticed that the splines at the rim is not a tight fit on the splines at the drive shaft. I previously noticed a slight “knocking” sound when the scooter was parked on the centre stand, and when I was “rocking” (turning) the wheel forwards and backwards. I always thought this sound came from the gearbox Gears - but after a good look when the wheel has been removed, I noticed the sound is actually caused by the loose fit between the splines at the rim, and splines at the driving shaft.

In my case there is no “wobble” at the wheel, despite the loose fit between the splines.

Yes, there is play in the wheel as seen in the video I posted.
It has been going on for some time now, but I ignored it until the wobble messed up my rear brake caliper and disk.
Because of the wobble, the inner brake pad thinned out the pin that holds it on the caliper.


So, I managed to buy a second hand wheel for a ok price, but nothing changed.

Then I bought a new gearbox bearing, oil seal and gasket. It arrived a few days ago and I changed the bearing.
Scraping off the old gasket was the most difficult part, took me almost an hour. It was really stuck on, and since the case is aluminum I went really easy.
Still the same... 

In a combination of frustration and easy access to the internet at the same time, I ordered a new nut, washer, distancer, basically everything the makes the wheel stay on the shaft. Can't really tell if something is warped, but that's it, if that doesn't work I quit, and will probably try to sell the damn thing.

Really great pictures! That gearbox cleaned up nicely. Do you have all the SPACERS that are supposed to go on there? The splines are not for wheel alignment at all, just rotational torque. The pilot on the gearbox side of the wheel and the fit on the shaft at the other end plus the spacers to sqeeze it all together through the right hand bearing. Parts diagram will show the assembly. Bet you have something missing causing your misery.

The bearing at the left on your first picture looks like the bearing which holds the shaft that goes to the wheel. Is the outer ring on that bearing still sitting tight inside the aluminum housing ?

Yup, got all the parts and they are in the right places. Checked a couple of times.

It turned out that all the bearings were in good shape.
I changed the bearing (6004 2RS) on the gearbox case because it had marks on in, but now it seems the marks are caused by misalignment of the wheel.

Bearings in good shape does’nt nesserarely mean the outer bearing ring is sitting tight inside the aluminium housing. I think you need to make sure the aluminium housing is not worn. That could couse a wobble.
