My XTown now has 3200 miles---monkeying with windshields
1. stock is too narrow//short---provides plenty of buffeting
2. stock with Laminar Lip, still too narrow, but Lip cuts buffeting, adds about 3 inches to top of shield.....and I noticed top of my helmet after 2,000 miles had little junk/bugs stuck to it---so Lip pushes junk over top of head=good. Narrow shield not the best for real cold weather operation, probably ok in hot summer----I have put this combo back on. Reasons below:
3. Puig Touring windshield about 3-4 inches too high, causing look thru....dangerous in my book. Yes it can be cut, but I worry about air spill over, cutting basic design. So it is resting in my garage.
After 10 new maxi scooters and over 400,000 miles, with them. I find it sad OEM windshields do not work well on these scooters----maybe the bean counters/sales directors should ride or ride more.....want I want/need is buffet free/look over ride....knowing the basic problem with big scooter is....your nose too far from tip of shield. In my experience with scooters, only Vespa can be buffet free with right windshield....but I don't want one at their prices! or no dealers-----I am lucky, in spring 1959 I found Heinrich fairings and lowers for my BMW500 that provided the comfort I wanted/needed for miserable German weather---these remain my standard to this day. What I found with right weather protection/see over two wheelers can be quite comfortable to ride in all weathers and fun.
I prefer to ride with 3/4 helmet, safety glasses, ear plugs----because of neck injury (bike deer strike Switzerland 1990) I need 2 lb helmet for all day comfort
