Well, I experienced my first off-road hazard last night! Took the UXV 450i out for an evening ride after work and noticed a long stick had gotten stuck up under the machine between the left rear wheel and the frame. I reached in and pulled it out and my hand was covered in grease! Upon further inspection, I realized that the stick had poked up against the outer CV boot and punctured it. There were a few globs of grease on the outside of the boot and rim. With new toys comes new repair responsibilities!
Fortunately, I don't think the tear is too bad. And I caught it probably almost as soon as it happened and it doesn't look like any dirt or water got in there. I was actually looking at some videos last night on YouTube, and guys have had pretty good luck patching the boots with bicycle tire tube kits. So, if the hole is small, I think I'll give that a shot and then maybe cover the patch with silicone sealer. Because I really don't want to take the CV joint apart and replace the whole boot myself or bring it back to the dealer for same.
Any of you guys ever deal with anything like this? If so, I appreciate your input. Thanks!
