speedometer accuracy on 450i
« on: May 16, 2019, 11:43:34 PM »
Reading thru some postings on this and other forums many have questioned the accuracy of there speedometers. I thought it would be a nice night for a ride so off I went and finally remembered my GPS. So, with stock 25" tires or at least that is what they are supposed to be it shows the speedometer reads 3mph fast at 40 mph. In other words my speedo says I am going 43mph but actually going 40 mph. So if my calculations are correct then going to a 26" tire should make the speedo more accurate as the wheels will be rotating at a slower rpm for the same speed, thus making the speedo read more close to the gps.   I guess it just makes another good reason to move up to 26" tires when I replace the stockers.
