For years I've used marine grease on the 0 rings and washers of these things. Then just snug it.
Bought spares after watching people tear them up, never usrd them, yet.
Around here they use enough salt to hole a nuclear sub.

Oh I have learned this lesson I tell ya.  Yes we have so much salt her and my bike is outside all winter this past two winters.  My bike is deteriorated fast.  I have it up on a wooden platform I built and a tent I bought for a bike.

That's the idea! Include frequent fresh water washdowns....

Loosen the nut while the engine is cold, before you warm up the engine to do an oil change. I don't warm up the engine anymore to do an oil change but do it while it's cold. It just takes longer that's all.
