No More OEM Air Filters?
« on: June 15, 2019, 12:00:46 AM »
So, I just got this 2006 B&W 250 off of Craigslist. Took a weekend to look everything over. Seems like the only part on it that is in need of a replacement is the air filter.

After several days of looking on-line for a stock air filter, it appears that there are no more NOS,  OEM air filters for this model?

(Yes, there was a place out of Taiwan selling them for $25+$22 shipping, Grrrr)

Does anyone know of an on line store in the US that still has stock?
Or, do I need to convert it over to some universal cone/cylinder air filter and re-jet the carb?

Thanks all

Yeah, I'm not seeing any either.
Never wanted to myself - but might be time to remove it and replace the filtering element in the stock plate with some filtering foam, or waffled/corrugated panel cut from another source. ?
Get it close, hopefully no dances with carb necessary?

And, I'm feeling a little peculiar.

Yes, make your own like Stig said. Use that green foam available at Cycle Gear and most ATV stores. Bet it's online, too!

You mean take out the plastic molded OEM air filter  and literally just place a piece of cycle gear motorcycle foam across where the plastic and corrugated paper filter was and close the box up?

Not quite. Cleanly cut out paper filter and discard. Fix open mesh screen to original plastic on the carb/throttle body side, cut green foam to fit in hole snugly and then devise a way to hold in that hole. I used picture frame hanging wire.

B&W 250 should have the same engine as People 250.
If it is the same, the filter should be the same as well.

Been using HiFlo filters on my scooter and motorcycle, good quality.

It was a logical idea jeeves.

Thank you.

However, this B&W apparently has a unique filter.  >:(

The People 250 HIFLOFILTRO was a very different shape.

I think I will start rebuilding the one I have.

Just blow it out with compressed air.  I changed mine on my 2005 Grandvista @10K miles 6 years ago with an OEM filter just to establish a baseline.  Now I have 28K miles and everything runs fine.

This is the correct one for the B&W:
"KYMCO EGO 250 (B&W/EGO) ORIGINAL KYMCO AIR FILTER" $22 ebay

eBay $22.00,  plus $19.00 shipping.  >:(

It’s the shipping that keeps me from pulling the trigger on that.

I will try blowing it out 1st.

Rinsing it in gas or alcohol would be a bad idea???

Wow $19 for shipping. Use compressed air instead of gas which leaves its own sticky nasty residues behind I think very warm water and a Degreaser like Simple Green and then let it dry out thoroughly.  Look at YouTube for generic cleaning instructions for the paper element.
