Need help figuring out where black tube came off.
« on: September 10, 2010, 07:42:03 PM »
On my 2006 Grand Vista 250. When removing belt drive cover to inspect belt a small black tube came off. It's routed with a larger drain tube that is capped. Through a bracket at the front of the cover. I have the PDF parts manual and service manual. But it does not show this that I can see. Looks like a similar tube is shown on the same side of the carburetor. Is this a drain tube from the carburetor? Thanks

I likely came off the front edge of the air filter cover. When oil over flows the engine (if too much gets added or there is a tip over) it goes up into the airfilter box and then down the hose and waits to be drained.  Is this the one?

Nope that one is still attached. It's the larger capped hose I mentioned.  The other one is smaller rubber like a fuel or vacuum hose.  I do see a rubber tube coming off the top front if the carburetor. It has a 45 degree cut end.  So that does not look like where it should go either.

Ok now I found a hose on the right side of the frame that has a piece of rubber hose on it that appears older. It's a clear hose that runs down the frame toward the floor board/rear of the gas tank. It ends in a 45 degree cut.  So I would suspect it's a drain or breather of some kind. It looks like it's been disconnected for a while. So I guess it's not super critical. So now I have two hoses on opposite sides of the bike that do not seem to be directly related and both go nowhere.  Only thing that comes to mind is the scooter had been in an accident. Some minor scrapes on the right side. Wonder if some hoses needed replaced and they just forgot to pull the old parts.  This is really starting to bug me. I even pulled the seat and under seat tub/trunk again and still can't see anywhere to hook these two hoses to.

Ok found where the one from the right side went.  Was attached to a rubber boot under the fuel pump as a drain for the boot.  But it broke/ripped off.  Still searching for a place for the other one.

I think my 500 has a hose like that which comes off the final drive gear box near the top.  It runs forward along the top of the CVT case and then points down.  Think it's a vent for the gear box.  It's late and scooter is put away so can't go look.  The grass hasn't been mowed for 3 weeks and there might be snakes out there!

That one is there.  It goes from the final drive to the air filter case on this model.

Can you post some pics of the hoses? The carby will have a drain hose and a breather hose. The crankcase ventilation hose goes into the airbox, any oil buildup in the airbox is drained through a drain hose, this hose is capped to prevent dirt getting sucked into the engine, (this is on the clean side of the air filter. If you have a lead acid battery there should be a breather/overflow hose from that as well. Hope this helps.

I took some photos not sure how to post them on here.  Thanks for all the input. Still open to ideas of what the hose is for.  I put it back together for now. Since from all you have told me so far all the important hoses appear to be in their proper places.

Thanks again for all the help.

PS.  I see how to post pictures under additional options will import a couple pics later.

You may need to resize the pics, the limit is 192kb, there are pic resizing programs on the net you can download, I used pix resizer but now that I have microsoft office I use that.

If you host the photos elsewhere and link to them, there is no limit to the size.
