Extended Warranty
« on: August 01, 2019, 02:42:40 AM »
Hi all- has anyone had any experience with Kymco's extended warranty?
Checked with my dealer yesterday and since he had not sold one, he emailed the mother ship for info. They came back and indicated that you could only buy an extended warranty while the original was in place and since the UXVs and ATVs were only warranteed for 6 months, I was not eligible.
Surprised?? You bet. I distinctly remember seeing in print that all Kymco machines had 12 month warranty. I purchased my 2018 back in September 18 and was really surprised to hear that not only was the extended warranty off the table, but I was also out of regular warranty since March.  Soo, I went back and got the 2018 catalog that I referred to for purchase information and lo and behold, on the back page says 12 mo warranty on all Kymco.. Scooters, Motorcycles, ATV and UTV..
Sounds a little fishy to me.....Anyway I photocopied the front and back of the catalog and sent it back to the dealer so he could re-contact the mother ship...Wonder if they changed the rules for 2019?  If they did I think they should still be on the hook for their conditions for 2018 until my machine passes the 12 month mark...
Any thoughts?

First off, you DEFINITELY have a 12-month factory warranty on your machine. As you note, the paperwork you received with your machine clearly states that. My understanding is that KYMCO actually offers a two-year warranty on its on-road machines (motorcylces and scooters) and a 12-month warranty on the off-road machines (ATVs and SXS). If you visit the KYMCO USA website and then visit the pages for the UXV 450, you will also see a one-year limited factory warranty clearly listed toward the bottom of the page. So, clearly your dealer and whoever they talked to at the mother ship has no clue on this. Unfortunately, that does not seem to be out of the ordinary.

Incidentally, I purchased a "leftover" 2018 450 in March from my local dealer and actually received a free extended warranty as part of a sales promotion KYMCO was running at the time to try and get the prior-year models cleared out before the 2019's started rolling in. I currently have a warranty on my machine until March of 2022. I do not know anything about whether you can still purchase an extended warranty, but since your factory warranty is still in effect, you may well be able to. You may have better luck reaching out to Cornerstone, the third-party warranty administrator that oversees the KYMCO Extended Protection program, for details.

If you click on this link, you will see an existing thread that deals with this topic, and there's also a copy of the extended warranty available there:

You definately have at least a 12 month warranty, someone screwed up on the info you recieved. I cant believe all the poor dealer stories I have heard. Guess I am lucky, my dealer has been great, always confirms with the factory so info is accurate. In my first year (2016) I personally contacted the US factory about issues and they were helpfull as was "cyclepedia" the online service manual as they have trouble shooting service. We can be glad that Kymco has the lowest number of consumer complaints per 100 units mfg of any mfgr!

Well as the story goes, "the times, they are a changing"....Got a call back from two separate folks at the mother ship yesterday and the party line now is that the 12 month warranty is broken up into different time periods....6 months bumper to bumper, then the next 3 months are drive train, then the last 3 months are engine only....What a crock....I also talked to representative from Cornerstone, as the mother ship indicated that they do not dabble in extended warranties at all...
I knew that the Cornerstone call was not going to go well when the representative asked me if I "was a dealer, or Just a Customer"...They would not give me any info on any of the plans, saying that it was privileged information between them and the dealer. Too late in the day by the time I got to them due to time difference between East coast and MDT to pursue it further, so I will have to wait til Monday to get with my dealer and see if they have even heard of Cornerstone.....He had indicated that he had not sold any extended warranties to this date so I kinda doubt that he is even signed up with Cornerstone.  Ah well, as the stomach turns....Not real thrilled with the experience at this point....They still have not owned up the 25% difference in the speedometer accuracy problem either.  Although my machine has not given me trouble yet, I am less than satisfied with the Kymco experience. The folks at Kymco indicated that there was no way to offer a 12 month warranty (complete) on an off-road vehicle as there are so many ways of breaking it when off roading....I still have not been able to find paperwork saying the warranty terms which they are now hanging their hat...Only thing I have found is the complete 12 month warranty indication....  Kinda makes you wonder. Anyway am still waiting for one more person to get back to me from the mother ship to see if they will be allowed to honor the warranty they have in print.....

I wonder if folks who buy Can-Am, Polaris, Arctic Cat etc have these issues??

Hate to be the bearer of bad news, Heck, but what KYMCO is telling you in EXACTLY what is the warranty information you should have received with your machine. I will attempt to attach photos of the front and back of the warranty certificate that I got with my 2018 UXV 450 and you will see what I mean.

As for the extended warranty, although Cornerstone is the administrator, it may well be that the actual warranties are only sold through dealers and verified through KYMCO corporate, with Cornerstone then issuing the policies. I would definitely check with your dealer and see if you are still eligible to purchase one. They should be able to confirm with KYMCO. And again, if you actually want to see the langue of what's in the extended warranty policy, I posted it in an attachement in that other thread I referenced in an earlier reply.

Do folks with other brands have warranty issues?? Yes they do, Polaris has had many warranty issues, as well as BadBoy Buggies which never honored the warranties on there all electric machines. One of the reasons Textron  bought out ArticCat to help there reputation and cover the losses on there electric vehicles. My dealer has honored all warranty issues, much depends on how hard your dealer fights for there customer!
