Noise coming from the front tire already? - PROBLEM SOLVED
« on: September 13, 2010, 11:40:18 PM »
I keep running over these huge pecans or chestnuts or buckeyes or something on the ground here, so at first I thought a clump of that junk must have gotten caught up under the fender because I saw some on the front tire. Cleaned the tire, took off the fender. I don't see anything. I checked to see if the tire left marks on the fender from rubbing against it. Nothing. The tire doesn't seem to have any marks. At first I only noticed it when riding slow or coming to a stop, now I hear all the time and it's driving me crazy. No wobbling tire, just noise, and maybe the slightest vibration.

But I keep hearing this noise every time the front tire rotates and hits a certain point. I wouldn't think anything would be loose just coming from the dealer, but ya never know I guess. Everything seems tight, though.

Would the front brake be making a noise if it got something in it? It's repetitive, like when you have a card (or something) stuck in your bicycle spokes. Any idea what I should look at to try and figure it out?

EDIT ADDED: PROBLEM SOLVED - 67 days later - for solution see this thread here about halfway down the page:

..your front disc has holes all around it.."card noise" capable...

..could be a buck-eye..whatever ..shell piece is caught somewhere around your brake caliper and pads...

..give it a good inspection in that area..

Don't forget the simple stuff, stone in tread, or nail/screw in tyre.

Nah, sitting at home now. Mrs.sid just had a screw in front tyre of her car recently, so it is still fresh memory. Read, not quite pushed out to make room for another, yet. :)

Thank you, thank you. That makes sense. I just brought it in for the night. Maybe I'll get lucky and find it right away.

I think I lied, sid. I'm not touching that scoot 'til morning. Pushing that heavy thing up hills and through yards has got me beat today. I feel like I been stomped on. Too much muscle building this past week. lol.

Oh, heck yeah. One time they had me in that dentist chair for 4 hours and I felt traumatized for a week afterwards! When they finish up I don't wanna hear the words root canal ever again. I'm gonna check out that tire and brake real good this morning outside and see what I can see.

Did you ever figure out where the noise was coming from?

I may be crazy, but I think it's got something to do with that front brake. Everything seems tight and I can't find anything wrong with the tire, but I took that fender off again today and was trying to pay real close attention to it while I rode. You know, the noise stops when I hit that front brake. Makes me wonder if it isn't too tight or something? It'll drive me nuts 'til I figure it out.

put the scoot on the center stand and spin the front tire and see if you can see what it might be.
I beleave theres a wear tap on the brakes but if your scoot is new that should not be it.check and see if everything around the tire is tight.

Thanks, blue. I was gonna try to put it on the center stand tonight, just to get a better look, make sure I'm not missing anything. The fella up the street with the chinese scoot said he would steady the bike for me while I tried to see if I could put it on the stand. But he wasn't home when I came back down the hill. I'm thinking to take a hose to that tire in the morning and get it good and clean again. Maybe tomorrow I can catch him. If you could hear it, you'd probably know what it was in a second.
