Time to rethink bigger Scooters for speed

On my break time at work I happened to look up the 0-60mph and quarter mile times of various larger bore scooters such as the TMax 500 and 530, Majesty , Silver Wing 600, Burgman 400 and even the Xciting 500. (zero to sixty times . com)
I looked them up because at 17,000 miles my DT300 feels like its just now coming alive speed wise, and so I was looking to see what else is available in Scooter world that would be quicker and with more snap up to 60mph.

In case anyone is interested in knowing you can look it up yourselves but the numbers I found show the DT300i is not just quicker, but quite a bit quicker in this area than all the above which kind of surprised me.
In fact you`d have to go with a Burgman 650 in order to make competition: the DT300i averages 8.7 seconds 0-60mph and the big Burgman shows a 8.3 seconds.
And with a few easy and inexpensive mods the DT300 will become even much quicker.

For example I put sliders and a Malossi belt on mine it came alive, I mean it really came alive.
A stock DT300 clocks @ 8.7 0-60mph.  I bet mine is closer to 7.5 seconds with those simple mods.

Switching to 13 gram rollers really made a difference in acceleration, and without loss of top speed, which amazes me.

Maxi scooters are more powerful but are a lot heavier. In the end they all rely on a CVT, which slips on acceleration.

Interesting. I have 14g in there now and I have 15g on order to experiment with. Now, I plan to order me some 13g too or maybe gring down my 15`s to 14.5 which I learned from someone on here a while back.
Apparently you can even stagger different weights and see how you like it.
Another item that really woke my DT up was a Malossi belt. I found that out by accident~ needed a new belt quick and the only one I could get next day air was a Malossi so I bought it and found out it launches my scooter very nicely off the line and on up to 60mph real quick.
It recently needed changing and I had a brand new OEM on standby, which I put in last week.
Huge difference, that OEM isnt as fun so I have another Malossi on order rt now  ;D

Your link for tha Malossi belt goes to an Amazon page for an Apprillia 843x10.5x22 or some such. Cannot seem to find the 1004x24.5x28 that would work in a DT300i. Could you direct me since I am a dinosaur?

Funny that link gets generated automatically by some Viglink or something when I type Malossi belt. I never bought any parts from Amazon.

I got one on order from ebay right now. Malossi apparently has 2 different ones that fit the DT300.

The first Malossi I had was this one and it hooked up real good. I got the link from a user here on this forum back in 2014 ~

You know that the bunch here has concluded the absolute BEST belt replacement is the OEM Kymco part which is a Mitsubohi product that is 1004 x 24.5 x 28 for the DT and People GTi300 (supposedly same engine). I will be VERY interested how this turns out. I would use clothesline if it worked! OK, that is a slight exaggeration! Har, har! Seriously, WAY back there have been posts of disaters using aftermarket CVT belts. But there have been reports that Kymco put the wrong belt under the right part number...wrong belt in the right bag....

Scooterpartsco.com has the best prices and quick shipping.
I had to rebuild my gti300 variator and went with all Malossi. So far so good.

I doubt that you got it stateside but Gilera were making a 800cc scooter at one point that was legendarily fast...

I do remember the Aprillia SRV 850cc maxi and Honda Integra 750cc and Dio semi-scooters in Australia. They obviously didn't sell well because for the same price you could get a decent litre bike or large comfy cruiser.

I hate to burst your bubble, but that's the same belt. Malossi makes belt for the Downtown 300.

That's why drag racers use automatic transmissions.

I have a xtown 300 (new but 1200 miles on it now, got it in Virginia for $2950 (plus tax and freight was $3500), seemed a bit doggy, starting to be a bit quicker now... what are sliders and rollers and how hard to change them and belt?
