Don't trust my torque wrench(es)
« on: August 22, 2019, 07:08:54 PM »
Have two of the dumb things.....click types. But - having used both of them for the last couple of CVT services - I don't much trust either of them, or my ability to set them correctly.
I have a couple of belt changes coming in the near future, and the two CVT nuts probably require more accuracy than my seat-of-pants "feel" with a socket wrench.
So, I ordered a 75 and a 150 beam wrench to do the work with. Figure to use the big one on my son's R6 Yamaha and the smaller one for scoots.
Worked on VW's for decades using nothing but a beam wrench - and I am comfortable using the same on my scooters.
Have never snapped anything, or stripped anything or had any important fastener come loose.
So, on with the old school ...

We need a scoot pic here....on all posts

I let a shop full of tools go when we went full-time in the motor home including both a ft-lb and an inch-lb bending beam torque wrenches. Been using feel ever since. Well, used feel before except on head bolts where it was felt necessary to make all the same. Variator and clutch nuts have been re-tightened to match what I thought it took to bust 'em loose.
