Tire Ware?
« on: August 27, 2019, 04:14:59 PM »
What do you all get with your back tire.  How many miles or Km's do you get before you need a replacement.  I am having to get a new back tire every 4500km's :P  so for me this is every year!

By  making choice of right tire--I can/ do get 10,000 miles or so---SilverWing 600, TMAX, Burgman 400----with Michelin City Grip in proper size on my 2019 XTown 300i, it looks like 10,000 miles is there, too.

I use Ride On as balance medium, tire stays balanced for its life.  Most scooter shops cannot or do not balance scooter wheels and tires.

Try a City Grip like John says. That is the one I have not tried and my opinion id the Downtown just eats scooter tires including the Michelin Power Pure SC, which is SUPPOSED to be a dual compund tire with the hard stuff in the middle. I got 6000 miles on that thing when the wear indicators showed. Not impressed. I have heard good things about the City Grips for years.

What brand tire are you using that only lasts 4500 km (2700 miles)? I thought I was doing poorly by getting only 4000 miles from a Kenda.  Do you keep it properly inflated?

22,000km on rear Pirelli Diablos. What is causing the tyre to only last 4,500km? Could be over or underinflation.

I always got around 10,000 km.s  with city grip rear tire ,  front tire was powerpure, as that was the closest tire match for the city grip,  front tire I got around 20,000 Km.s ,  my downtown has died   RIP.   I will part it out , all electricals are new the moter is the part that died  con rod or crank, to many power take offs,  maybe???  90,000 km.s on it,.  it ran with lots of power right to the end.,  it seemed to have the same power as my Piaggio b v 350  34 HP.  by the seat of the pants feeling,  I installed mallossi variator with belt and with dr. pulley sliders , opened it yesterday and the belt goes to the top of the pulley, lowers the RPM at speed, improved the gas milage , still does not go to 100 MPH. with out a hill ,  electronic cut off is up to 90 MPH. from 85 MPH.

Wow big difference here from what I get!! Could it be that most of my miles is highway speed!  I travel on highway for 1000 kms each trip I take to Mom and Dad.

I keep my air like the book says.  What do you suggest?

I put in 28 psi. It is slightly underinflated for more contact area to spread the weight.

Nireen, at the speeds you run - please continue to use the exact tire pressure stated in your manual ( and on the sticker on your scooter)
Underinflating causes heat to build in the tire.
Your Kymco owner's manual is your best bet.

I think your advice is the best Stig. I just wanted to answer Nireen's issue of trying making tyres last longer.

Thanks guys :) I would like to have both longer ware and safety so maybe will compromise and put 30 psi instead of the 32psi I put :)

I just order a cheap tire $49 bucks and will see how long this last.  Who knows I  may get just as far with it as the expensive one's I been getting!!!
