i joined the club.
« on: September 15, 2010, 01:02:03 PM »
yo.

new zx50 owner (2010 model), bought it for $1550AU brand new (0km). the owner's wife won it as a prize and he had no idea of the true value. he said '1550 will do' - no arguments from my side.

as per every single 50cc owner ever, the rev limiter drives me mental. first step, adjust the CDI... second step (?)... i'm sure it's been spoken about 45369 times already, but if anyone wants to school me then i'm all ears eyes.

fuel wise, will using 95 octane have much of an effect on performance?

scooters rule.

G'day mate, welcome to the forum. First step, get the variator derestricted, to do this take out the variator boss and get the step machined off, that should put you up to about 70kmh, next remove the rev limiter, to do this bridge the light green and dark green wires on the CDI, that should get you to around 80kmh. These are speeds that were indicated on my speedo, which I have found to be very inacurate, I think kymco like to over state the speed. With my ZX50, I have put on an 82cc cylinder kit which has been a headache to set up and a 24mm carby and 4 reed inlet. Stick around and you will learn a lot.

thanks boss. i'm going to run the engine in before i do anything, i'm at 180km already so will wait til ~500. i noticed you're from whyalla - i'm in adelaide so count on me hassling you for help  ;)

rookie question: will removing the rev limiter be damaging to the engine if i sit on the max speed after the variator and CDI have been altered?

i'm out of the loop - what does 'wot' mean? i basically want to be able to go fast enough to stay safe in traffic. going 40km/h is pretty terrifying when a 25 ton truck is overtaking.

also, +1 to cornering. riding straight sucks. i wish my street was just a continuous series of S-bends.

OK, so i'll take my beast to the dealer and get the CDI altered. i'm thinking of ordering one of these (below link) and getting it installed as well. do i need to add anything before i (if i do) add this particular exhaust or is it OK to add straight after having the bike de-restricted? i'm not going to lie - i basically want the 'zorst because it looks cool.

that pipe is a rs 2... those are made for a big bore kit and after..(i believe to big for you right now).. you can just run the next r pipe for the stock engine and a bbk...    you can do the cdi yourself, after i paid, i kicked myself for not doing it myself. ;D ;)

When I first started riding this scoot I would turn the throttle to full open, whatever speed shd did was the speed I rode her at. But, now I have to excercise a little restraint.:)

yeah, alot of up and down. ;)  i do have some flats tho on some roads. :D     so my sh** gonna be slow anyway???                                       on the tech side, i bet the zx's intake ports are way smaller than other kymcos..which i THINK is part of the zx problem but of course idk..
