I was advised to park my scooter for the winter in Ohio!
« on: September 18, 2019, 10:37:38 PM »
My reply,
Wise advice, however....
I'm about to go into my 7th Ohio winter with my Kymco - which, admittedly, does seem to have higher quality hardware throughout than some scoots (certainly better than that pricey, unlamented,  Burgman!). Maybe it snows a lot in the part of China where this LIKE200i was assembled?

Used it for work commuting whenever roads were probably snow-free. If salt was about gave it a rinse each time with a garden pump sprayer and a dry with a leaf blower.
Lot of trouble? Beat riding the bus and walking! Wife uses the new car for her work.

I love scooter riding too much to park them for the winter. I take very good care of them - but if they're determined to rot - I'll buy another every 10 years.

Once I discovered battery heated gloves I was like a man set free in the Arctic!

Regardless of where I was living I never parked my bikes or scooters in winter.  Helix would start after nite outside in 30 below.

I used sidecars for many year so no falling down problems-----but my new '66 Harley factory sidecar outfit could be bear to start in real cold weather....that was in the days when HD used straight weight oil---their 105 being about 50 weight----newer HD's can use multi weight oil.   MZ 2 stroke would start in any weather.

Salt is the winter problem in many places---But I found quick spray off with water hose as least slowed the rot down.

The person that gave you that advice either cared for you, the bike, or both. I'm guessing that an average 30-minute summer commute presents a 100 possible life decisions to a scooter rider. With snow, that might double.

Klav and Stig what photo program are you guys using to embed photos into the blog? Most of mine are too big(high quality) and I have to keep cutting the quality/size down to get anything to fit. Also I would like a photo directly into the blog, w/o having to use a link..

Thanks

Hey Stig, which battery gloves do ya use?
Gerbing lithium battery heated liners under leather Olympia Wind-Tex gauntlets. Don't think they make them any longer. Pair of batteries each in the wrists.
Sure can't run a heated glove off of the measly 6Ah battery in the Piaggio.
Find my battery too low for a start -  miles from home on a 15°F day?!
Will be looking for alternatives...

I use SmugMug.

If you import your high res photos into Windows Paint, you can resize them. I often resize to 25% of original (and rename them with something that tells you they are smaller) and then you can post them to the forum.

Stig

The front was a City Grip.  They don't offer the correct size for the rear.  On the Like it's reversed.  I can get a rear City Grip but no front.
