Drive Belt Time

Soon drive belt change time for my 2019 XTown 300i ABS----Kymco recommends 10,000 mile change, I may stretch it to 12,000 miles----on 9 other Maxiscooters I changed at 15,000 miles---only one broken belt in over 400,000 miles (Helix with belt near end of service life...carried spare, Helix easy change, only cover off)

I already have OEM belt, which I always carry with, as I hate walking.

Note: when I lived in Korea, Daelim scooter, they didn't worry about belt changes, even with scooters in  commercial service.....and had very little trouble if any.

This time I have to decide to buy new impact wrench or pay one hour of shop time to have change done.  I have lift so little bending down.

Fist belt change on the LIKE200i was easy enough once I managed to free the blasted belt/CVT cover!

I've done all my belt changes with hand tools.  A 'piston stop' is helpful to take the variator nut off but I've used other tools to immobilize the crankshaft to loosen and later, tighten up the variator nut.  The clutch nut also takes some planning but all doable.

Piston stops....
Man I hate the thought of putting that kind of stress on the engine internals!
Holding tools are @$12.

I have pulley holder---- but some times it takes another set of hands, when getting nut off pulley using breaker bar and socket.

Shops use impact wrench to free nut-----but watch them, I do not think impact is way to re-assemble.

Getting cover off can be problem---patience and big rubber hammer has worked for me in the past.  Working with bike on lift easier on old body.

Looking at cheap electric impact wrench right now.

I agree; I don't actually have a piston stop but know that it is an option.

You can use an impact driver to remove the nut but don't use it to put the nut back on - if you strip the threads, you are looking at replacing the crankshaft.
