Hose to nowhere - help!!!
« on: September 18, 2010, 07:49:18 PM »
On my S200 there is a hose that goes - nowhere. It comes off the air cutoff valve, and has live vacuum. If I cover the hole with my thumb, I can hear the idle change. It looks like it should connect to an open nipple on a tee that comes off the tank, but is way too short. In fact, it looks like someone cut the hose with a knife!

The scoot starts and runs perfectly, but I would like to know if I need to re-connect this hose, as I currently have what amounts to a vacuum leak.

..the hose assembly should connect to your fuel petcock, the secondary air filter and the intake...

..looks like someone has done some creative re-hosing...

So is it supposed to connect to that open nipple in the pic? I could just buy a length of hose and replace the one on the nipple to make it all meet. But do I need to?

..i just disconnected the hose on my a50, that opens the secondary air filter, which draws exhaust air back into the system....you know th bit...emmisions....

..which is what i believe, from those pics, is that open, cut-looking hose...

..imma see how my scoot runs without the pollution control circuit enabled....

The tube with the connector and open nipple goes to the gas tank.
the cut tube comes from the air cutoff valve.
Not sure where the bottom tube (with the open nipple) goes - it appears to go under the floorboards and up to the steering area, but of course that makes no sense.

but of course that makes no sense.

..i know of nothing up that way that would need vac attached to it...

..imma make that run, but i had to adjust my idle mix after blocking that circuit, however i kinda liked the throttle response off idle.......it quickened...

..where's it going??

I think I am buying into the emissions idea. It looks like it sucks fumes out of the gas tank. No idea what it does with them. Other than the fact that blocking the vacuum changes the idle, it does not seem to do much, Have ridden this scoot about 1000 miles with no issues at all. Starts right up, no stalls, good accel all the way up to the top end of 60.
Must have been disconnected for a reason.

..if blocking it changes the idle speed, then your idle mix is either becoming lean or richer by doing so...

..just to throw that out...

..but if you've had no issues, then...................

It probably makes it richer, as it is sucking less air, but that is just a guess. Plug looks good. Maybe slightly rich, but I also changed the air filter, and scoots tend to be factory set too lean anyway.

On another note, I dropped the bike in my driveway last week. Just a few scratches, no biggie, but I did have some oil in the airbox. I am assuming that is because of the drop, but I'll have to keep an eye on it. Dropped it onto the left side, so things could flow in that direction?

I did have some oil in the airbox. I am assuming that is because of the drop,

...it's normal to have a small bit of oil in the airbox...there is a tube that attaches to your valve cover,..... "pcv"..type setup...

..that draws vapors from the top of your engines head, into the airbox...

OK, I thought it was supposed to go into the drain tube. Which is totally dry, BTW.
