San Antonio motorcycle dealership late 1960's

Owned a couple of Honda bikes while wife and I lived in San Antonio during my combat medic training at Ft Sam Houston.
Was thinking today about the bikes I saw during my visits to the dealership.

So many years later these are the bikes I remember.....in the same colors, I think.
Triumph Trident, BSA Rocket 3, BSA 441, and the superbly sexy Norton Commando in bright yellow!









Wish all motorcycles still had seats like these. (much safer for the wife back there!)


I loved both the economical* Hondas (one was stolen) and we relied on them as our only means of transportation.

Nice bikes! I recall $75.00/month as an E-3 in 1960....

My take, all those Brit Bikes shown were junk if you road them a lot---Spring 1958, I was in San Antonio for Air Force Crypto School---riding Maico 250 Blizzard....nice bike except for Bosch electrics.  Dealer I liked to visit I think was Zundapp and whatever else (I forgot) but had a Messerschmitt on the floor.   In Germany, Sept 1958, I bought a used Messerschmitt for $400...nice in winter.

Don't know if they were 'junk' - but a start would likely be 50/50 on a cloudy day.
While my Hondas would start at the bottom of a pool!
(sign I saw over the parts counter at a British car dealership, "Do you know why Brits drink warm beer? LUCAS makes the refrigerators!"

I still say Brit bikes were and are junk...if you like to ride, based on new Royal Enfield Bullet (Indian Woodsman) 1957, 1961 new Triumph TR5/AR( shook itself apart), 1962 Triumph Thunderbird----I learned my lesson they were junk in practical terms, 1963-64 new MG Midget sealed the deal---Brit industry go what it deserved, they really opened the door for the Japanese who made stuff that ran and didn't fall apart at nice price.

See a punk kid riding by on a blue Honda 175 - throw a stick in his spokes.
He stole it from my apt in 1969!
(probably a little rusty by now - Still - nail him!)
