Making a change to winter gear
« on: November 16, 2019, 06:54:50 PM »
Because I can't see in my mirrors on the Piaggio, I'm going to try a change in the bulky winter riding gear I've been wearing for 7 years.
Also, not spending a few hundred $ for a Lake Kilamenjaro adventure jacket - I ride a 150 scooter for Pete's sake. My adventures are in a coffee cup.
(and no, for 2 yrs I've tried & rejected various mirrors and mirror attachments)
Going to try an Oxford Rain jacket over a leather ICON jacket - with a new thermal turtleneck or two.

Figure if it can keep out the rain 100%......

Should work OK Stig.
Doesn't get as cold around here, I just use a leather riding jacket, some tourmaster overpants and keep my froggtoggs in the trunk if it gets real bad.
I guess for a colder climate I'd probable use some thin wool long johns.  Specifically wool for a few reasons.

Crossbolt.  Whatcha looking for in a liner?

27 degrees here, but will warm up.-----Leather is not warm period, but blocks wind.

Suggest for your short rides-----get wide windshield, then any proper fitting rain jacket with quality feather jacket under works---I have tried all kinds of underwear and those advertised as magic---plain Hanes tee shirt next to skin works, followed by sweatshirt/flannel shirt.....and you stay warm/not cramped/ and dry----non breathing rain jacket seems to make no difference for up to 8 hours riding (condensation)----most bike gear sold in US market designed for crashing, not the practical part of cold weather riding.

My feather jacket is aging out----have to think of replacement, remembering feathers ain't warm when they are wet---there are materials that work when they are wet.

On staying warm---Fleece, even very expensive, never has really worked well for me.---of course as liner.

Stig, have you worn that Oxford jacket enough to form an opinion on it?
2014 BV 350  "IndiGO" (fast, strong and tireless)
2006 Honda Rebel 250  "Snow Leopard" (stealthy, agile and durable)
2018 Lance Cali Classic 200i  "Black Panther" (smooth, nimble, quiet and quick)
2016 Wolf V-50 (sold)

Wanted a Kymco, ended up w a Lance, but that forum is inactive, so I am here

It's supposed to be in today's mail.
Sitting here in my coffee village, waiting for sunriseafter a 33°F misty ride on the Liberty.
I can report on the new turtleneck worn today for the first time. ("Heattech Ultra")
It is the only layer under my 2 jackets. It is keeping my core, neck and arms comfortable! Some new kind of fabric - from Japan I think, made in Vietnam.

I like the Occulux bright yellow and black industrial jackets. Have two and they are only around $38.  They have many pockets reflective tape and are great in cold weather rain, etc.  Here:

Do you wear these over an armored motorcycle jacket?
I've been wearing my  OccuNomix Class 3 for a couple of years. Warm, fits over an armored leather jacket - but so bulky I cannot see in the mirrors of my Piaggio. Declined the black as I want the most hi viz I can get! (pd $70)
