2015 450i need help with problem
« on: November 20, 2019, 03:30:16 AM »
I am having an issue with my 450i.  First off, the battery is brand new.  I have to put the battery charger on it to get it started
When I get it started, it runs fine as long as I'm on the throttle.  Once I stop, it stalls out, and will not start because the battery acts as if it is dead.  I have to our the charger back on it to get it started.  Any help or leads would be greatly appreciated.   Thanks

Hello
If the battery is functional, the poles are well connected, then the jumper in the charging system probably (it could be the cause of the death of the previous battery).

I'm sorry but I'm using a translator.

Miles, (engine hours), year, recent wrecks or servicing of your 450?

Bought it new in 2015.  Barely have ridden it at all.  Has 4.5 hrs on it.  No wrecks.  Not ready to be serviced yet.

Sounds like ISC, idle speed control is not working but that will be showing a flashing code on your speedo/tach cluster somewhere. Not totally convinced of this with your battery description....new machine, sat more than operated.....you have mice where you park it?

Just because the battery is new doesnt mean it is good.  I have saw many "new" batteries over the years prove to be bad.  Have the batter tested, a load test is needed.  Once your sure of the battery condition then look into your engine problems.  I woulds start by looking for loose or coroded connections, or chewed wires from rodents. Just sitting can be harder on machines than actually using them. Machines are made to run and whe they sit all kinds of issues can occur.

Battery was new, replaced OEM battery.  Put it in, and it was going the same thing.  I took the battery back to have it checked and load tested.   All was good.  Installed new battery back in the machine.  I have checked all wire for corrosion, loose wires, unplugged wires for a week now with no luck.  It is always in a controlled storage area,  so no rodents have been in it.

Get a good trusted volt meter and check battery voltage, it should be 12.6 volts or higher.  Then have someone check voltage on battery when you turn key to start position.  Battery should still read 12 volts or close to it. If battery drops down to 11 volts or below you have a bad cell. If reading stays at 12.6 or above then you have a wiring issue. Check voltage at starter with key at start position. After sitting for all this time it might be a corrosion issue at some connections

I checked everything with a voltmeter.  All checked out good.  When I start to move and it idle stops, it dies.

Mine will stall on ocassion until it is completely warmed up. I just keep lite pressure on gas pedal until warmed up.  Your issue was a dead battery, or battery not starting engine....need to be more clear on your issues or we cant help.

I bought a maintainer and installed it.  That seemed to take care of the battery issue.  The main problem I am having now is that at when coming to a stop, it stalls out.  It has a hard time staying g running when at low idle.  I let it warm up, and rode it to get it at operating temperature,  and it still did it.

Not sure if this is related or not.  My dealer told me the 450's tend to foul plugs.  He said when they fire them up and move them outside they are only ran for a short time. This tends to foul the plugs easier.
