2000 People Stopped on Me
« on: January 05, 2020, 02:23:20 AM »
Hello everyone new to forum. I purchased a 2000 Kymco People 50 2T Scooter 2 months ago and 2 days recently the scooter suddenly stop accelerating when I was riding it to go meetup with someone.. It cranks up but when I twist the throttle it don’t lunge toward. The previous owner claim he had it well maintained; I was using it to do food deliveries for last month or so and notice gas and oil leaking what I believe more than it should from exhaust. What could possibly be the issue? I will have to figure out how to remove the cover to check the drive belt. If that’s not the issue what could possibly be the issue and what would I aproximately have to pay to have mechanic replace part on the scooter? I live in South Florida and was riding at top speed 50mph to keep up with traffic even though the scooter is People 50 2T scooter.

Sounds like the engine is not getting enough fuel, or it’s getting too much fuel.

You can just remove the spark plug, and have a good look at it. If the spark plug looks whet just after an attempt to rev the engine, the engine gets flooded with too much fuel.
If the spark plug looks dry, the carburetor is probably clogged, or the you need to have a look at the fuel filter, or look for cracks in the fuel line.
Life is a journey. Just spend some time, and enjoy the trip.

Welcome to the forum alana!
Please give us a little more information.
1) Engines revs up fine,  but scooter does not move forward?

2) Or engine does not rev up as it used to when you twist the throttle?

And, I'm feeling a little peculiar.

When I rev the engine by twisting the throttle the scooter doesn’t move at all.

Broken belt, or totally worn or broken  clutch.
Most likely  the belt is broken.
Remove belt cover for a look.
There are plenty of youtubes on replacing a scooter belt.

There was no filter inside the black box. I don’t have no idea I missed that when I did a pre inspection upon purchasing the scooter from the previous owner plus I discovered screws missing from the box where the filter goes. I will check the spark plug and clean the carburetor when I inspect the drive belt.
