P150 Goes Down!

We'll, I'm embarassed to admit it but the old girl (and me) hit the pavement for the first time today!  Was coming home from work and I took a right onto a one-way.  I saw that the next stop light was green, and then I must have momentarily looked away, and when I looked ahead again I was about ready to kiss the car's trunk in front of me.  Apparently traffic was backed up and even though the light was green, the car was barely moving.  So, I hit the brakes hard and thought that I was going to be OK....... until I hit the paint in the crosswalk!  The front wheel was turned just a little bit and it went right out from under me when it hit the paint.  Fortunately, just got a little road rash and some scratches on the scoot.  Worst thing was probably a bruised ego!  Surprisingly, didn't have a scratch on my helmet.  I'm guessing I had slowed sufficiently before I went down.  It only takes a split second.......so be careful out there!

..i've done damn nearly the same thing....i lost my front tire grip on a painted, wet (morning dew) directional arrow...

..keep an eye out for those that are on your beaten path...

..fortunately i was only travelling about 10 mph and only had to perform a split, (envy of any 12 year old russian gymnast) before my front tire gripped rough pavement, and i was able to recover..

..granted, much lighter weight scoot...

..still, i stretched some things that hadn't been ....  loosened since jr high track-n-field...

..heal up and keep on scootin bro!!

I'll second Word's words!  Glad you didn't get hurt seriously.

Those wet lines can be nasty.  Closest I came to going down was one morning after I had stopped carefully  without incident at a stop sign.  But then didn't I go and put my foot down onto the wet stop line while waiting for traffic to clear.  My foot slid out on me and I ended up barely being able to hold up the scoot while assuming an awkward and somewhat painful position.  

I had always worried so much about braking too hard or trying to turn while crossing the wet line that it never occurred to me to watch where I was putting my foot down!

Live and learn.

Hope it helps others avoid that experience. 

Although, it would have been one of those things where my only injuries would be to my pride.

Sad that you went down, but good that you and scoot are ok, those lines can be slippery, wet or dry.

Hey oswaldters, yep, gotta watch where you put your feet, don't know what you might step in, a small patch of oil and next time you put your foot down it could slip right out, no warning.

glad you made it safely out of harms way...a scratched scooter is way better than any of the alternatives..... thanks for the reminders...   several months back i had also slammed into the rear of a suv, its not fun...     stay safe out there......

Thanks for all the kind words!  I have experienced the slippery shoe syndrome before also!  Never went down, but it certainly got my attention.

Sorry to hear about the fall. I had a close call on Monday myself. I was heading toward our bank and was riding along a road that boarders a county park with a lake. I came to an intersection without lights and no stops signs on the road I was on.

I took a right turn, and slowed knowing there were a few potholes up ahead. What I didn't see was the frying pan handle size stick in the road that my front tire hit just has I leaned into the turn. My wheel lurched under me and on reflex alone my right leg shot out and braced the full weight of my scooter against the road. Within half a second I was back in control and moving on my way, but it scared the
$&!+ out of me.

Luckily I was only going about 15 MPH. If I had been going faster, or was with my wife like I was the other day, things would have been worse. A broken leg at the least considering how my foot and leg came out without me thinking about it.

Falls setting in here on the East coast, so I'm now more aware of what's on the road especially around turns.
