Dealer visit, killing time.....
« on: January 13, 2020, 06:15:56 PM »
Looked at new X300. Nice scooter....after my 2 little ones seems like a lot of scooter for $4500!
They had a used one, 3500 miles,  in toobright blue for $700 less.
I asked about the price of the new  Burgman 400 sitting nearby, "is it about $9,000?"
"Oh heck no, not that much!" said the young salesman.
He checked, came back, "yeah, out the door maybe $9200!"
We then discussed all the street bikes sitting in their showroom that one could buy for if you had $9200.
Have long thought that scooters offer less value for your money than a motorcycle.

And, I'm feeling a little peculiar.

I think one of the best deals is the Yamaha Xmax 300 at $5699. https://www.yamahamotorsports.com/scooter/models/xmax
There's a dealer near me with a 2019 B400 in matte blue for $6499 on sale, tempting.

Kymco remains probably only scooter importer with decent prices.....with Burgman 400's (old design) going out the door for over $9,000, no interest on my part....but had 2 new ones, both after 2007----first one leaking engine cases, second one drive line parts blew up at 20,000 miles (but Suzuki did pay for repairs, even got a new belt in the deal).

Scooter market in US is dead....real reason people (old farts) do not ride them much.   And as consumer, who does own work except warranty, they are too costly to work on in shop.

Right now nothing on the market interests me, my 2019 XTown 300i is working fine and cost was reasonable.

They still have some 2018 400i Xcitings for sale. I have really loved mine and have had no issues with it. Maintenance work on it is relatively easy and it rides like a smaller scooter. I wish I could get some of the Euro models over here like the Kymco AK550, People S 300, Xciting 400i S, or the Honda SH 300, Forza 300i, Honda Integra or X-ADV. Only if gas prices go past $4/gal + will we see an interest in scooter sales...

I have minor knowledge on basic maintenance based of many conversations with scooter mechanics in Rome, Italy.
