My XTown 300i is now in its final form......Givi E-46 box (1998 model), hole cut in top for dog's head, over 500,000 miles on box---heavy but it does not seem to bother handling much-----I have it bolted directly to rear wing/passenger handle...rack Givi sent me did not work (Monokey), so the direct bolting. I have tried smaller Bestem box, but need the bigger carrying capacity of the Givi.
Windshield: the XTown 300 is my 11th new Maxi scooter since 1990, so I have lots of experience with crappy OEM windshields (that don't work) lots of buffeting in over 400,000 miles---For the Kymco selection of aftermarket windshields is limited, but I found Puig Touring, cut 4 inches for look over, is as good as it going to get, I have Laminar Lip I can bolt on, but at moment not used.------Stock shield, even with Laminar Lip bolted on is too NARROW for good cold weather operation. Plus for Kymco---their method of windshield mounting on the XTown is really great, compared to Honda/Suzuki/Yamaha/Daelim I have experience with.
Other things: I like mirrors, have O-ring as throttle stop (cruise control) this is left over from my Kawasaki Concours.
At 10,000 miles I will change drive belt, check oil screen, read plug, check valve clearance. I believe in frequent oil changes on engines with no oil filter---WalMart house brand 10-30 or 10-40 works for me. This Kymco has been easy to work on/reliable....much better than Honda/Yamaha/Suzuki experiences I have had. New Daelim in Korea never broke or nothing fell off--Puig windshield installed.
Next, at about 15,000 miles----I will buy new set of matched tires, install myself, use Ride-On as balance medium.
So far no warranty claims on this machine.
