2013 Kymco Agility125 will start but won't stay running
« on: February 18, 2020, 04:27:02 PM »
I got a 2013 Kymco Agility125 from my mom that had been sitting for a couple years. I drained fuel system, put in new battery, etc. After I refilled it with fuel, I put some injector cleaner in the tank with new fuel. I can get it to fire and run for a few seconds, but it just dies like someone is cutting it off. I did get it to idle for about 30 seconds last night but couldn't repeat that. Any ideas? Fuel system blockage? What am I missing?

Thanks,
Marc

I would probably get the carb cleaned. If it's been sitting for a while some of the passages could  be plugged up.  Even more so if it was let to sit with ethanol fuel which absorbs water out of the air and degrades fuel over time.

Fuel cleaner will not work if the passage is blocked where it can't flow through.

Yes, probably a fuel system blockage. If the scooter was sitting for a couple of years chances are about 100% that some components in the fuel system (i.e. fuel filter / pump or injector WILL be blocked.
I think chances are very slim that an injector cleaner will be able to clean a clogged injector within 30 seconds.
You should replace the fuel filter and if the injector can’t be cleaned, you probably have to buy a new injector.

P.S. you mentioned “injector cleaner” so I asume you Agility came with a EFI system - not a carburetor.

I had to look it up in my prior post to know it was carburetor model not fuel injection.

Where is the fuel filter on this thing? Is there a fuel shut off inline somewhere?

Some filters are in the tank.
Be worthwhile to purchase a service manual from Cyclepedia.com,  or other, for this scooter.  Saves a lot of guesswork. @$30> $40. Some can be found online...but I like the clarity of the cyclepedia manuals.

And, I'm feeling a little peculiar.

My Agility has an in-line fuel filter between the fuel tank an the carburetor. At the left, (CVT side) side, higher up towards the seat. 2013 model as well. If you can’t find a filter between the tank and carburetor I guess the filter might be inside the tank.

Mine is at the same place.

Out of the 4 Kymco scooters that I have bought that sat for a couple of years I've had to clean the carburetor in order to run.
