Water pump repair
« on: February 23, 2020, 06:57:15 PM »
I had a year ago on my scooter few coolant drops leaking from the weep hole. Its sometimes drips sometimes not but the drips was little drops of coolant not something serious. So i thought its not something serious so i ride like this a year. now its stop to leak. I dont saw a leak for a few months.. how it can be?? And i consider that my water pump are bad and my scooter is overheating because the engine case extremely hot... I dont think its normal fix me if i wrong.. i very worried about my scooter.. do you think i my scooter was overheating because my water pump leak year ago?.. the scooter engine was been fail already?? And can it done some damage to the scooter? I also wrote here few quotes about power loss and high rpm.. now i think its maybe because my scooter is overheating? If yes please help me how to change the water pump .thanks.

Never a good idea to keep on riding or driving any means of transport while a water pump is leaking. The reason being -  when the  engine is warm during riding or driving conditions pressure builds up in the cooling system due to heat expansion. So the warmer the engine, the more pressure in the cooling system, and the bigger the leak . When the engine cools down after a ride or drive the opposite happens, and air will be sucked into the cooling system from the exact spot where the cooling fluid was leaking from - usually at a water pump seal, or water pump gasket. Even when a cooling system has an additional expansion tank, the cooling fluid will rather leak at the faulty seal or gasket - instead of getting forced into the expansion tank when the engine is warm. So by time more air will build up in the system, while the level of cooling fluid will get lower and lower.
Your scooter’s overheating problems are most probably caused by a combination of air in the system, an incorrect cooling fluid level, and  lack of pressure in the cooling system. Remember - the higher the pressure in the cooling system, the higher the boiling point of the cooling fluid will be.
The leak probably stopped due too much air in the system - cooling fluid has been replaced by air over time, therefore when the engine gets warm air will escape at the “leaking spot” - instead of cooling fluid.

i haved opened the air bleed screw to check if i have a air in the system and the fluid get freely without bubbles or something ... I dont think i have air in my system if yes my scooter engine was die already .. no? And my scooter does go 120kmh in 7000rpm its ok?

If you are sure there is no air in the system  the overheating problem could be caused by the engine running too lean. If the air / fuel mixture is not correct, an engine can also run too hot. You mentioned that the scooter has less power than before - which makes me think you might be sitting with a partly clogged fuel filter, or an inefficient fuel pump. If so, the engine could be running too lean, and therefore the overheating problems and lack of power.

The cooling system should also have a thermostat somewhere in the system, and the thermostat might be faulty.

By the way - do you experience the overheating problems only during very hot conditions in summer ?
