Kymco agility 50 no spark
« on: March 21, 2020, 04:42:11 PM »
Hello, I have electrical issue. It has no spark. I replaced stator, cdi, ignition coil, but still no spark. This kymco agility has kg10sa engine. This problem is quite annoying because there is not enough info for this kind of problem. Thank you for your help.  :)

What year, how many miles, was it running okay for you previously?  Is it a known good spark plug?  How are you checking for spark?

Confirm all your operator inputs prior to start sequence:
1. Battery charged?
2. Run/stop switch in run position?
3. Fresh fuel in tank/oil in engine?
4. Maintenance recently performed/recent modifications?
5. What eamartin said.
6. What model specific posts have you read here or elsewhere?
7. What is your background and experience as it relates to this problem?

That is a good beginning, others can add to it as time goes on. An Agility 50 is the perfect place to start if you never worked on a gas powered vehicle and a perfect machine if you are experienced to deftly prove you know what you have learned by solving the problem. It has all the elements of any gas engine powered machine except heater/ air conditioner or wipers! So what we all learn on this can be applied to any other gas powered machine regardless of number of wheels.

1. Battery is charged, at 12, 89 volts
2. In run position
3. Only fresh fuel. I got it after two years of only standing in the garage.
4. I changed the stator, cdi, ignition coil and spark plug.
5. 2007, 17k km = 10k miles. Previous owner said it was running very well. As I got it I managed to get it running with jumper wires. But I think they were connected for too long and burned the fuse. I replaced it with a new fuse, and it had no spark. So then i replaced cdi ignition coil, spark plug, stator still, same problem. Yes, its a good spark plug, tested on another scooter. Connecting spark plug and placing it on rocker cover then turning the engine.
6. I found some posts about simular problems but as I can see all if them were 125cc kymco's
7. I have lots of experience with 2t piaggio and minerali engines. On them it was much easier to find electrical problems

So the previous owner says before it was stored for two years it ran normally, right? But it would not start when you got it? So you DID get it to start and run with some difficulty by using a separate battery and jumper cables? You determined there was no spark by grounding the shell of the connected spark plug and cranking the engine? The cdi was replaced by the exact Kymco part? You also replaced the stator, coil and spark plug, right?

Is that about the sequence of events? There are AC and DC cdi. I do not know which is on that model but from other posts here they are not interchangable. Many cdi from ebay work if they are the right style and are hooked up correctly. The 50 and 125 are nearly identical except for engine size.

Right. Yes I did manage to get it started. After that there was no spark. After that i started changing parts but still so spark. My cdi is identical to the old one and connection is the same.

You jump started it because it had a bad battery?  So you replaced the battery then?  While it was running it just stopped when the fuse blew?

I think you need to check whether the engine is properly grounded to the battery. The best way will be to use a Multimeter.

You did not mention anything about the voltage Regulator. If I remember correctly I once read a comment which indicated that a faulty Regulator can cause a no spark problem as well. So maybe you need to test or change the Voltage Regulator.

The video below is about a different scooter, but it also shows how most components involved can be tested. If the engine is properly grounded, I think you have no option other than to test all components - even when new.

This is the video:

P.S. If the scooter has a kill switch, I think the switch should be tested as well.

Thank you for your help, it was voltage regulator's fault.

Were you able to somehow test the voltage regulator?
