Doubt anyone rides when I do
« on: March 29, 2020, 05:19:39 PM »
When do you ride?

I live in small town Ohio.
First 4 yrs I work commuted year around on my Kymco, Honda or Suzuki scooter, 5:30AM to 3:30PM.
I always took the long way through town traffic.

Week ends (and for the past 3 years) I've confined my scooter riding to the hours from 5:30AM  to 10:00AM.
I always set off in some degree of darkness, and return a few hours later.
The scooters remain parked for the remainder of the day.
I'm pretty certain that no one else limits their scooter riding as I do.

I've many reasons for this: more relaxing traffic free rides, responsibility to the family*, family commitments the remainder of the day, 30 yr habit of I rising for work at 5:30AM,  etc.

I cannot remember the last time I rode out into mid-day traffic. It did not matter if I was riding a 260lb 155cc scooter, or a 489lb 399cc scooter.
On my last ride to and from my coffee village - I looked at my speedo and thought, under these road and traffic conditions, "I could just as easily be riding a 50cc Vino, or Metropolitan."

And, I'm feeling a little peculiar.

I find it very relaxing to go out in snowstorms at night , the worse the weather is, the less traffic, and more relaxing, it started driving, coming home from late evening meetings, most of my life, but then I discovered it's just as easy on a properly equip motorcycle, and I go out just for the fun of it

I've heard of 5.30am. Didn't realise it was real though.

Just got back from a 40 mile loop riding to Marquette then Lindsborg. Beautiful day seen around 40 motorcyclist  (most on HD's) two groups of bicyclist and one lone bicyclist.  Never seen another scooter rider.

You forget about all the world's problems and clear the mind to the task at hand riding.
In parts 200S and Grand Vista and my motorcycles 2 CS BMW'S and one GS BMW.

Sold-32 Kymco scooters of various sizes this summer.

After 30+ years of going to work getting up at 4:45  I can assure you it is very real.  Now after being retired for 5 years I still wake up early.

I don't normally see a clock at that time either, except now, senior shopping hours at Market Basket 5:30am-7:30am before the hoards ravage the toilet paper aisle

I haven't ridden to work since 2018 now, but might do a couple of times this year I hope. That is a 0545 to 0745 job, so I have seen the wrong side of the dawn quite a bit :)

I need to work out a 45mph-friendly route out now that I don't have the Like200 to flog on the M1, however.
Rides;

Suzuki GW250 Inazuma (2016)
Honda C70C (red, 1983)

"M1"?  Where the heck are you travelling to to work then?  In any event, I ALWAYS try to avoid M-Ways when on two wheels!

You poor sod!  I recall commuting to Leicester from Solihull daily for about 9 months and what a ball-ache that was!  In the summer you rode into the sunrise going and coming home into the sunset!  Ho hum, them was the days.
