Thinking on drive belt change--XTown 300i 2019
« on: April 02, 2020, 04:13:41 PM »
My XTown 300i 2019 is approaching 10,000 miles and Kymco recommended belt change interval and I have new OEM belt on hand-----with over 400,000 miles of rubber band drive scooter experience and always changing at 15,000 mile intervals (Suzuki Burgman 400/Honda Reflex/ Helix/SilverWing 600) and only one broken belt (Helix) underway---

Thinking about running XTown belt out to 15,000 miles---remembering this is new bike, miles put on in short time, one owner/rider----anybody with recent experience/new bike/longer intervals?   I realize old/older bike different case----age can kill rubber based product.

Danger of running belt longer is......you might get runover!!

As long as it has not reached minimum spec width and is not cracking it should be fine to run longer. Running beyond minimum width is obviously a gamble and one that I personal wouldn't want to take.

My Agility 125 has 13000 km and the 20mm belt has only lost one millimeter. Because minimum spec is 16mm the belt may last for 20,000mi.
Become the best you can with what you have.

I never bother to check or measure belts, just run them out to recommended miles.....remembering I have been doing this for over 400,000 miles of rubber band scooter use.   This way works as I have had only one OEM belt break/destroy itself in these miles.
