2008 Kymco People Starter issue

Hello all, Looking for some help with my 08' Kymco Peoples 150.  Several years ago randomly the scooter would not start with the electric start button.  I could hold the button down and shake the bike back and forth and hear it trying to start.  Like an electrical connection was bad.  Also some times hit the bodywork below the seat and it might start.  Gradually this worked less and less until now the only way to start is with the kickstarter.  Any ideas or experience with this out there?  I was originally thinking a loose ground wire somewhere but would be nice to have some direction before I tear into this  ::)  Thanks for any help

I've got the same issue on my Agility 125.

Piece of pie! You two are gonna HAVE TO get willing to remove some stuff. I dint say you actually HAVE TO remove some stuff, just be WILLING! That way, you'll be ready! Har, har!

Battery, red cable, heavy relay, starter motor.
Battery, black cable, ground.

That's it to begin, all connections tight and not green.
Begin with that...

I will use any excuse to dissemble and tune my ride. I love working on it as much as riding. By the way, my cheap glass pack muffler with 6 inch Uni filter was probably the best mod for the cost. Other than milling my variator to allow the belt to use the full pulley face. Currently running 75mph at 7500rpm.

My starting issue was a failed brake sensor. I now use the front brake when starting.

That's outstanding! What did you mill on the variator?

I will post a picture if I can figure out the technology.

The variator is limited on a 50cc by adding a washer between the pulley sheaves. I worked the other way and took 5/1000 off off each pulley sheave to allow them to be shoved closer together. I then took 2 mil off the drive boss to account for the extra range. Now I can effectively control the "gearing" by changing the drive boss length with shims. I may get a bbk to make it a 150cc.

I don't have access to much equipment which meant 3 hours oil grinding the variator face on wet dry 3000 grit paper on a glass cutting board for a true flat surface. Previously the bike cruised at 9500rpm at 65mph now however max power is matched to correct gear ratio.

Thanks!  No problem putting the work in.  Battery is new...would you suggest starting from the battery and working my way to the end of each cable and the components it may connect to?   All on the right side of the bike I assume....

Yes, most all have the heavy cables running down and forward on the right side. Start relay and starter connections on the right as well. Regulator/rectifier, too.
