Vespa 600 mile first service
« on: April 21, 2020, 09:17:48 PM »
Dealer charging a fellow $240 for the first 600 mile service.
Scoot gets a look over -- and new oil, oil filter and gear oil.

I'll do it for 3 $50 Tim Hortons gift cards!

If you read this on the Vespa forum---they want to change spark plug (surely not needed) replace drive belt ( again not needed)---expensive oil, etc, etc---I would change oil and filter, look for junk falling off, test ride.

After over 75 new bikes since 1955---I seldom return bike to dealer for service----many cases, Germany/US they just screw things up-----Japan/Korea work done right by somebody who knows what they are doing

No John,  only the items moved to the right column of the invoice were going to be replaced...and totalled $55 for the oils and a filter. Remainder of bill was tax and 1.5 hrs labor.
Man could save his receipts and do the work himself without penalty according to my Piaggio warranty book.

Some folks just don't have the aptitude for things mechanical - even simple oil changes. I'm giving the fellow a pass.

True enough.
I always shake my head at folks who spend so much on a new Burgman,  then try to make a $7 NGK go past 24,000 miles. Or cut up a $2 home furnace filter to put in the air box. Or share amongst their tight little selves that dirty oil filters work better than new - so "change the oil - but leave that dirty filter in there because now it's at its prime!"
Lotta funny guys on scooter forums.......apparently 😊
