Front Brake Pins
« on: September 25, 2010, 07:10:34 PM »
Damn cheap ass tools! I got the damn allen wrench stuck in the damn pins. Maybe I shouldn't have hammered so hard. This sh** is on there way too damn tight I'm tellin' ya! I managed to get it out on the first one, but now it's stuck in the second one and it ain't coming out. That damn dealership could have done this sh** right before they sold it!!! Alright, yeah, you can go ahead and laugh now 'cause I'm a girl and a weakling. lol. Now that the pins are loose it just squeals when I spin the wheel. Those damn bolts though are another story. They just pissin' me off!!! >:(

Stupid, Stupid, Stupid...

Not to worry, Word will be able to tell you how to hook up some led lights to it so people will think you planned to have it there.

Pretty soon we'll all be doing it!

Are they the pins holding the caliper together? Might be best to remove the caliper as a unit than to split it, at least, until you know what the problem is.

Hi, sid, how do I remove the caliper as a unit than to split it? Not sure what you mean. I have only loosened the pins and the bolts, not actually taken anything off yet. When I went back to check things out I just happened to look up and see that fluid getting ready to drip down on me. Then I took the front panel off and took some pics. Wanted to see what was going on first. I think I looked up there because the front rubs or squeaks when you turn the handlebars and I was probably trying to figure out if that noise was coming from the frame parts rubbing together or some cables rubbing against something inside up there.

The caliper is in two parts, the mounting plate and the actual caliper itself. The mounting plate bolts to the fork and the caliper floats on the pins so that when you operate the brake, the piston pushes the outer pad onto the disc, as it does this, the caliper body is pushed in the other direction forcing the inner pad onto the other side of the disc.
The squeaking you can hear is probably you speedo cable rubbing on a wiring harness or part of the frame/plastic.
If you have loosened the bolts you can take the caliper off to have a look inside to see what the noise was being caused by. Remember, DO NOT squeeze the brake lever while the caliper is off the disc.

Thank, you, sid! I WILL NOT sueeze the brake lever! If I do I will be soo asahmed after your warnings. lol. So I can do that safely without having to remove the brake line or end up with fluid running everywhere? I ask because it's in the living room right now. I have cardboard down, but if it's gonna get messy I will try to find some plastic or something to put down under the scoot for protection.

Ha! A piece of an acorn shell fell out! I set it back, but not tight. It's still rubbing though. Hmm...Pads look nice from what I can see. I might let it sit 'til morning and look again when I'm not so tired.

So even more progress!

And at least you'll know where to find your allen wrench in the morning.
