Hello guys. Thanks for the forum. 1st i have a kymco downtown 250i but i cant see any tab for it so i have to post here first and be referred to the proper group.

1st thing is. I want to replace the front lights, btw my 250i is similar to the 350i. There is no proper info on how to dismantle the front fairing to access the bulbs. I thinking of modifying the wires to get both headlights to light up at the same time. Visually it would be more pleasing than the dim one side and full beams on the other and they donw come up at the same time.

2nd the scooter is 250cc it climbs up to 120kmh and the rev is at 7000rpm. I can feel the scooter wants to go higher like 140 easily but it seems limited. I have no info from the shop etc. Can someone help to understand whether there is some kind of limiter or governor which can easily be removed.

Also for the headlights im planning to replace the halogens with led bulbs any recommendations?

I'm certainly no expert on your particular scooter model but it always helps if you let us know the year of your scooter and where you're located. Is you scooter new, used? If under warranty the dealer may be able to help if you feel it's not running to its full potential. I can't imagine that a 250cc scoot is restricted in any way from the factory..

Regarding switching to led headlight bulbs...most would say they weren't happy with the light pattern after making the change. If the headlight reflectors aren't designed for leds you can get some odd light patterns.

On my motorcycle and scooter I replaced all turn signals and tail/stop light bulbs with led and love it. I left the headlight bulbs alone.

Have you looked for service manuals? You usually need to purchase one for a Kymco but it will help you with disassembling the front fairing, if needed.

I did a search for your Downtown 250i and to my untrained eye it looks similar to the Downtown 300 and Xciting 250.  I would  guess they all come apart in a similar fashion? I'm sure there are differences but the general method would likely be similar. Maybe do a search on similar appearing models to see how they come apart for headlight bulb access?

I just watched a youtube video on your scooter..good looking bike!



I now understand what you're talking about with the headlights. It has dual headlights but only 1 operates as the low and one as the high and they do not come on together.

I'm sure there is a way to overcome that...it reminds me of the Yamaha Zumas (50 cc scoot) that had the same headlight issue and there were workarounds to overcome it.

A lower than expected top speed could be the result of a worn drive belt? Eventually the belt wears enough so that it doesn't ride as high in the pulley, giving you a lower top speed. But this is just a guess.

My bike is new. Bought it off the dealer on 29th feb 2020. So i have added to my wishlist that im getting the ak550 on the next 29th feb. Concerning the model its not really like the 300i but kind of.

I emailed a guy on the forum i saw his query on a 250 and hey hes mauritian like me. And very happy ive got another mauritian here. His name is Yan.

He told me that he goes up to 120kph as well so taking into consideration that its a 250cc and its quite big and heavy thats its surely its top speed. My query was in regards to a video i saw on youtube where some guy was doing 168kph so thats probably with a remap, pulleys and all the stuff available in his country really.

But fully loaded with 2 persons that thing still reaches 120kph very very fast.

I love it and still have a whole lot of road with it to come. So im happy to joing this great Kymco family.

the reflectors in the headlight are not good for LED,s ,.   I tried all the bulb types,  ended up installing spot lights ,

I think 74 mph/120 kph is very respectable for 7000 rpm. The DT300i  is generally 6000 rpm 60 to 70 mph depending on level or climb or descent. I would check your CVT belt width soonest.

As for the scooter categories - we are here at the pleasure of the administrator.
He does a pretty good job of serving most of our interests, responding quickly to our reports of spam - and keeping the forum operating trouble free.
Not every scooter is covered, but then we don't pay much to visit here.

Hopefully you will find others who will discuss your scooter with you - if you post in the body type, or engine size? Most users read pretty much every post - especially in these quarantine days.

I will admit that I hadn't heard of Mauritius before...so I did a search and read up on it on Wikipedia. Interesting history and a beautiful place.

I hadn't either until I decided to learn all countries and their associated capitols a year ago. I used an old map accidentally and now will always know Myanmar as Burma:)

Thanks Mr. Stig. Thanks also for adding my island on that smmap. Talking about covid. It hit us with 330 cases and 10 death. But the country has been doing very fine with the confinement measures etc. We are on 20 days without new infection so pretty much ruled out lets hope.

Yes and we speak english and french and sunny nearly all year with a winter which is like 23 degrees celcius. Cant complain really. Plus I live on the beach. So cant complain again lol.
